Default Question about balancing

Are chunks like this taken out of the compressor wheels of turbos to help with balancing?

This 14b was unusable so I went out on a limb and got another. The new one is in damn good condition (one teeny tiny crack in the wastegate. no light can get through it), but it too has chunks like that taken out of the wheel. If it's perfectly normal, please tell me, so I avoid bitching out DA-MAX.

Between the compressor blade and the center section.

Wow thanks guys. I'm feeling a little better about this now. There's also a little piece missing around the center section above the seal but below the snapring. I'm not too worried about it since it wasn't visible before disassembly (it was under the snapring) and the seal itself doesn't appear burned or compromised in any way.
