Default Quest for 400 whp help.

Okay I am finally dyno tuning in a month and wanted to get some input. I want to try to hit 400 whp on around 18 lbs (hopefully) but I need to know ways to make it easier to hit the power goal in the short future. Here is the jist of my current setup (things that amount to the power goal)...

-B18A1 bored .5mm over with cp 9:1 forged pistons (GSR), eagle h-beams (GSR), and GSR crank. Everything has been micropolished and full rotating assembly balanced, b16 pumps (oil and water).

-B16A2 head with GSR cams. 2000 si intake mani bored out to 70mm. 70mm Throttle body, RC 750cc's, stock fuel rail, soon to be FPR and adj. cam gears.

-Greddy v-band 18g turbo TD05 3-inch inlet ext. wastegate, cast manifold, turbonectics wastegate. small intercooler, 2.5" piping, crome for now (S300 after tune).

-2" to 2.5" downpipe to 2.5" exhaust to 5zigen fireball. (thinking about 3 inch though because of power goals).

I think that is all the stuff....so throw out ideas of how to make the power with maybe less boost. I don't want to spray though, and really dont want to go the gt35r route....

400whp on 18psi will not be possible on the TD05 18G. 350whp, sure (if really pushed), but not 400whp. You're over 20-25psi + to do that. that's only 41lbs/min on a GT28R turbine platform. You'll need at least 50-55lbs/min to do that by that psi number.

why are you waiting to swap to s300 after the tune ? the tuner would probably be able to tune your car alot better and get more power with the s300

the oil pumps for b series are all the same part number now sorry.

i would defiantly recommend a adjust fuel pressure regulator and bring your pressure up to 55psi or so and the oem fuel pump is not really rated for much thats a must.

ive been running a gt35r ,82 and i understand what you mean but you can achieve that goal with something smaller and still boost decently in low rpms

shodan know's his stuff im sure if you pmed him he would help.

Itr cams will help out a lot too and 3inch exhaust. And another turbo.

Tubular manifold. T3/T4 57-trim, 60-trim, or 30R. 3" exhaust. Get the S300 before the tune. Done.

Or you can even modify the 18G you have to have a larger compressor/exhaust wheel combo. May cost about $700, but would save the cost in new manifold wastegate and downpipe. PM me if you'd like to know more.

I want to swap s300 after the tune because I want to get it tune ASAP because I missed drag season last year I thought he my tuner could maybe drap the map over to the s300, but he has said Hondata is a lot easier to tune before.

I will be getting a adj. FPR, and I have a walbro 255 lph, I think maybe that will be enough????

I PM'ed shodan....because I do not know enough about hybrid turbos and I'm sure he knows more.

Guess it's time for the gt35r, Those things are so damn spendy.....

A local shop said that the itr exhaust cam was about the same and that I would benefit from a itr or ctr intake cam because of the bigger lift/duration. Don't know if he was just throwing me ****.

A 35R is money well spent and Shodan knows his ****. I think he's probably the best brain to pick on this forum when it comes to turbo setups. The guy is so helpful I think he deserves paypal donations for it.

^I now know my 18g is paperweight now for my goals.

I would send him paypal donations but I will have to save for a couple weeks to get a gt35r. Im wondering what other companies make a comparable turbo...

Honestly I think 400 can be hit without a 35R. But to each his own. You can get a HX35 Holset turbo for probably around 200 to 275 and hit 400. Good Luck keep us updated

it looks like the SC61, garrett 60-1, STC Silver Surfer (can't find price), or a gt30r will work for the goals as well? Im looking for the best "cheapest" turbo, since it wil be big I think I almost need ball-bearings as well. Need some input from you guys on the turbo!!!!

PM responded, I'm giving you so updated information as well, since you're looking at T3 turbine setups as well. I think it can easily done without having to step up so high as a GT35R

400whp can definitely be achieved without a gt35R.

GT30R would make that power for you and spool a bit quicker as well.

I looked at the GT30R, but really it is the same price as the gt35r, so why not. The shodan gave me some insight to the hybrid setup. Still not sure which way to go. Because Really I hate the manifold and the downpipe....and I make a lot an hour; just wanted to save my money seeing how the car has been getting greedy and taking it all.

I would like something like the gt30r from a good company that I can buy the turbo brand new for not so much $$$$

But on a second note, I did find a new garrett gt35r in the box on the local craigslist for $900 and usually the gt35r's don't go for under 1000 without being fake. Not sure that I would trust it was a real gt35r though...

Well, you're going to spend some money, there's no way around that when you need to get the right equipment that you need. If you're willing to spend on a GT30R, used or new, you're willing to do what it takes to get the rest of the equipment ready, or hybridize further what you have to get the power you're looking for.

I found a nice priced precision t3/t67 with a .82 a/r turbine that I think I might buy tommorow. It looks a bit laggy but what the hay! I think I should be able to hit 400 whp with that turbo. Im also getting a ramhorn manifold tommorow from a friend for a great price, all that will be left is either a 3" or 4" exhaust (Im thinking 4" to get that suckka to spool) and hondata (<--maybe next paycheck)

Now you've made a Top end only setup. Going to 4" exhaust will not help such a big turbo to respond. The difference in the feel of the car from what you have now will surprise you, that's for sure

i dont think you are going to like the t3/t67 at only 400whp, its gonna be laggy as hell. i tried to find some dyno graphs for comparison.

this graph is of a similar setup to yours. 18g w/ 3" exhaust, built b16 engine though. its spooling 16psi by about 5500

and you are going to this (check the dotted line). thats only 10psi and not spoolin til about 6500.

Edit: graphs taken from the evans-tuning site. hope he doesnt mind
