Default Quaife install Questions....

Hey all not a true Forced induction question.. but hell this is the only part of honda-tech i post on.. plus most of us all run quaife LSDs... anyway just wondering if when you install a quafe if you change any bearings or any gaskets or anything...

iv read a few install pages on the net and they talk about new shims and also i read about people replacing ball bearing bearings.. part number 91005-P80-E31 i read that there about $25 each, you need 2 of them.. is this true ?
Or is it jsut a case of open the gear box up and install ?

Regards James

You will need to get new bearings for the differential. I have heard of some people reusing the old diff bearings, but that is shady. Every time I have done a Quaife install, I just order new bearings. That price that you quoted though seems really low. I think I paid like 75 for both of the bearings. I dont remember though. Also, you will need to reuse the ring gear off of your stock diff. Remember the threads on the bolts are reverse....so follow the little arrow on the bolt. I have never had to change any shims on my installs, but I always check the clearance anyways.

Just talked to Honda Australia.. and they said the b16a bearing part number is 91005 psi-003 where as the type r bearing is 91005 p80 e31 they have both in stock so ill eye ball them both and see what the difference is.. apparnatly the type r bearing is more advance.. ie rolls smother.. hmmmm god knows...

type r bearings are wider then b16 bearings.it ok to reuse the bearing. just make sure it rotates smoothly with out any sticky spots, otherwise spend 80+ on new bearings.

Quaifes never wear out. Honda limited slips will wear out or break under high whp loads

A friend of mine on this board dropped his in without checking for clearances and it's been working great. I called Quaife and they said it's built to spec although you should check clearances. What do you guy's think? Anyone else just drop theres in?

All of the installs that I have done, I havent had to shim anything. All of them have been perfect. But everytime still I check the clearances.
