Here is the first picture I have of the PWR water to air heat exchanger kit for street/strip applications. It includes a heat exchanger (11 1/2" x 9 1/2", 40mm thick), 9 1/2" fan for the exchanger, inline water pump, billet inline filler and wiring. It is shown with the 4" diameter liquid to air I/C. This I/C has 2 1/4" in/outlets and is available 6, 8, and 10" lengths. Retail pricing for the kit (NOT including the I/C) should be around the $350 range and I'm not sure of the H-T good guy price. The 4x6 I/C is $375 and the 4x10 is $495.

Does the kit require the use of a resevior for the water? I notice that it has an inline filler, you could just run the lines and no resevior. I am 95% sure that i am in for this kit. Great stuff

there is no resivor...thats what the remote filler is for. If you want to put a resivor inline to add ice and stuff like that, your best bet is getting like a jaz fuel cell or something for 80 bucks or go really ghetto and make one out of an ice cooler. That way you can hide everything as no one would suspect an ice cooler to be the only thing in side of a turbo prowlin honda.

None necessary. Same concept as a tranny cooler. Filler installed where ever you like in your tubing to start the process

By the way, the intercooler shown is actually of the 6" diameter...

Im pretty sure the one in the pic is a 6x10 core which is for the 500-1000hp cars

The first ones were done with AN fittings but now they are done with 19mm hose barbs. This allows regular hose (cheaper) to be used instead of steel braided lines.

what would u use as a coolant source? so what your saying is this system can run totally independent of an ice box and be safe for daily driving? -->street aplication.
give me more info..sounds so tantilizing that i might want to change my order.

looks great! what would you guess the HP rating is for each PWR intercooler size you have? you know,like the 6" supports 300hp,the 8" supports 500hp,etc etc.

Not sure on the heat exchanger design. They will not be ready until Jan.
PWR has come out with tranny coolers and is doing a line of fans.

Water to air coolers are typically not good for extended street use, but excellent for track use. I wouldn't run a street car with this as the only 'cooler' setup w/o the ice box filled.

Nalgene also has very nice containers. you can get them through VWR or Fisher Scientific. I'm using one for my alky reservoir(2.5 gallon).

See, thats just not true on this type of setup. Since the water has its own radiator and fan system, it keeps the water pretty cold. Just think of how hot and engine is and the size of a civic radiator. That keeps the water around 180 deg. or so. Now thats taking out the water that heats up in a motor that is gonna be 10 times hotter then water going through a intercooler source. There isnt really anything to heat the intercooler up...its not like a motor. A air to air can only cool as much as the ambiant temp outside. So its a hot 100 deg. day, the coldest you intake temp will be is a 100 but more then likely way above that. This is all changed with the water to air system even if no ice box is used. Now just think how insane it will work with an ice box inline...you can see 30 deg. intake air temps. Plus the added bonus still is the racer secret of it all.

water has a higher specific heat than air (it takes more heat to warm it up) so an air-water intercooler should be more effecient if you have a heat exchanger like the one pictured. An air-air intercooler is pretty much a heat exchanger similiar to the one with this kit but since water hasa higher specific heat than air it will work more effeciently. I was planning on doing this setup on my own mainly to keep my car a sleeper; i don't want everybody (possible race victims or thieves) knowing what i have under my hood just by looking. I'm going to add a reserve tank also so i can pack it with ice and take it to the track. it'll be easily removable so i can run it on the street without the tank (weight savings).

Just gotta say thats a really cool setup. Hey Earl , where are people locating the IC and which size would be ideal for say a 250-275 hp setup ?

Let's reduce this to my level...
Say you are grinding a piece of aluminum in your bench grinder. It gets to hot to hold. If you blow on the metal, you will probably pass out before it cools off. But if you stick it in a cup of water (room temp), it is instantly cool. IC's work the same way.

I'm new to this water-air setup. Can someone school me? I think I get the basic idea. But where do I put the extra radiator? Can someone take a pic of this on their car? EG even better. So how much for the total package? Look like it'll be around $700 for this compare to $350 for air to air.
