Default PWR Downflow Intercooler...NEW design

Here is a pix of a downflow intercooler we just built for a 600whp Neon. The cooling can go from top to bottom or bottom to top. This is done using either 6x18 or 6x22 downflow cores. Overall height with tanks is 10". This can accommodate in/outlets on the same side or opposite sides. It can be made with BACKDOOR in/outlets also. I'll let you guys decide if it might work out for a Honda application. Let your minds go wild

That would be great for manifolds like the sidewinder and hytech by reducing piping length greatly.

I guess it could but I think personally I might run into clearance issues w/ most of the piping behind the radiator since most of it will be bunched in the middle of the engine bay. I don't know w/out looking more and its late so

I tell you that would be perfict for an RB25DET. They have the intake and turbo on the same side of the engine so a top flow IC with the inlet/outlets on the same side would work alot better then the standerd cross flow IC's. How much would one of those suckers cost?

I'm suprised more people dont do with a setup like this.

Isn't it more efficent this way then having the endtanks on the the ends of the intercooler?

6x18 core (10x18 overall) runs $499, 6x22 (10x22 overall) is $599

Only thing I don't like about downflow intercoolers is if you're trying to run a bigass one it scrapes a lot. I have cartech's 6-core IC on my mustang (core is 27W x 8H x 6D + end tanks) and the first time I rolled my car out of my garage I busted one of the end tanks open on the garage because they hang so much lower than on a side-flow IC. Seems to work pretty good though.

This style is usually more effiectient that a typical core, just not convenient to setup in most applications. There are many apps where this would work well though!

PWR told me this design was much more efficient but I was not sure why. The 10" height is tough for many cars to find the room.

I want a dual 2.25" backdoor inlet with a single 3" outlet on one side in a 30x15x3 for my Mustang, puh-lease.

Would have worked great on the RSX we turbo'd. Being inlet/outlet needed to be on the drivers side.

This may be really useful for those with sidewinder style manifolds. To those that have them, think it would've made piping a whole lot easier?

Nice setup

From what I understand, it's more efficient to push air through more, short tubes than fewer long tubes as there is physically more capacity with this setup when compared to side to side flow of similar size core. Also, you loose velocity pushing though a long core. Or at least that's what I have read
