Proper break in of new motor
well my car is comming out the shop tomorrow and i was wondering about proper break in of the motor..ive heard different ways but trying to get one good way to properly break it in with turbo hooked up...of course im going to baby the car but i have questions like...
How many miles before i can go into boost??
How long before i can change to syntheic oil?? if that even really matters.
i was told highway miles are not good for proper break in, true or false??
should i change the oil every 200 miles until i reach 1000 miles?
Also what weight should i run....10/30, 5/30, or what??

Re: Proper break in of new motor (B18C-RnVA)
this is the method i used during the break in procedure of my newly built engine:
use mobil 10w-30 conventional oil.
start the motor, hold it at a steady idle at 2000 rpm for about 20 minutes. of course, check for leaks and anything out of the ordinary during this crucial period. don't forget to do a proper bleeding of the coolant sysetm as well. once complete, set the timing and double check everything.
0-200 miles: use a 3000 rpm rev limit. try not to lug the motor and avoid steady state cruising. vary the loads with a few first gear "zings" to 4500 rpm. of course, make sure, the car is properly tuned and in proper working order for higher rpms. but, don't get greedy and don't think you have to zing the motor either.
200-400 miles: rev limit is 3500 rpm. the zing limit is 5500 rpm in first and include partial second gear. the rest remains the same.
400-600 miles: rev limit is 4000 rpm. zing limit is 5500 rpm. include partial third gear. rest remains the same.
600-800 miles: rev limit 4500 rpm. zing to 6500 rpm and include partial fourth gear pull.
800-1000 miles: rev limit is 5000 rpm. zing to 7500+ and include partial and infrequent fifth gear pulls.
OIL CHANGES: 100 miles, 300 miles, 500 miles, 800 miles and 1000 miles.
Once complete, change the oil and filter, check the plugs, perform a valve adjustment, and compression test.
Personally, i performed my break in 'til 1500 miles and the oil changes might be overkill, but, better safe than sorry.
