Default do you need load to build boost?

so I got a t3 turbo from a saab, well atleast I think its a t3. its for my d 15, I used a hf mani and i installed it on the car today. the turbo and oil feed lines. but not the charge pipes or the downpipe, i turned it on to check oil leaks or smoking and all is good, except for the idle its pretty low and makes the engine shake and when i rev the engine it doesn't make an incredible amount of air like I expected it to, is this normal do I need the charge pipes so the im can suck threw the turbo in low rpm or do I need the car on the road to check for boost?

Do you have the o2 sensor hooked up. Cuz i did the same thing as you and it almost sounded like it was going to die.

No, it should have no affect because your turbo has about the same back pressure as you muffler. So thats just like as if you turbo is even there. You get what im same sayin, its kind of hard me to explain as tired as i em'.

I drove mine everywhere with no charge pipe and it didn't have any problems. Just make sure if you do drive it with no charge pipe that you leave the wastgate open cuz you'll over spool your turbo. Just get everything hooked up.

To tell you the truth, i dont remember. You really wont be able to tell till you hook everthing up and try boosting. When you rev the motor can you see the turbine spin faster, cuz mine you can. Also, do you have the wastegate hooked up.

ya it does spin faster and the wastgate is hooked up, and it does suck an blow but imo i thought it would blow alott more, does it mater on a d if the turbo is really small like mine. i still need to buy a fuel pump and engine management but dont want to buy it if the turbo has a prob.

It sound like its fine, NO smoke or anything? It might blow a skirt up but its not going to knock you over. Dont push putting it together. Trust me, i learn the hard way. Had a stock b16, and was taking it to get tuned the next day, and that niight i got on it and and there she blow. Just take your time and just make sure u disconnect your wastegate or you will have to rebuild. Once you get everything hooked up the put it back on. IMO that what i think you should, just keep the post up and some peeps will put in there opinion. good luck

do you have to run youre car under load to make normal boost level, or can you just rev your engine and make the same boost level?

no, car has to be under load, at least mine does, you'll still get a blow off but nothing else

so that's the reason I manually rev my engine from the tb and put my hand on the turbo to check for pressure and it doesn't seem to make allot of boost, I have to actually drive the car and check psi with my Gage, am I correct?

If you sit there and rev it, you can barley here the turbo spool. Get out on the street and rev it it'll scream. How are you going to check it with a gage if their's no piping

i was thinking of restricting the exit a little to see if it builds boost but I don't know I'm a total noob when it comes to turbos, Ive been reading up on diy turbo set ups for about 4 months already and thought I knew everything but im far from it, its all about hands on, and for everything I ve read I never knew you don't build reg boost in neutral if you rev it.

boost=load based. sitting in your driveway revving your motor isnt going to make huge boosterz
