prices on machine work?
Hey guys, I currently have a local machine shop "working up some prices" for me, I want to know what you guys have paid, and what seem like fair prices for having some of this work done, I don't want to get ripped off, and I have a feeling that's what they want to do
Here's the work to be done :
Bottom end:
Skim deck
Hone cylinders
File fit rings
Hot tank block
Head:
Shave/mill
Hot tank
Machine flywheel as well
Thanks for any input guys

What kind of motor is it that your having the work done on. If it's the "Y8 setup in the works" your talking about It all depends on how good the machine shop is and if they have experence with your setup. For example last year i had a Z6 Head/ Y8 Block setup done less than a year ago done. I know the guys personally for years and they specialize in custom setup's. I had Hot tanking, block knoching for the rods, block honed, crank balanced, cylinder head tanked port-n-polished valve guides ferrera valves, etc. I purchased the parts and they did everything else and i payed close to $1000.00 It all depends on who you know and if they have experence.

Re: prices on machine work?
I think I found a good shop with good prices, they build 8000 HP top fuel motors, so they ought to be able to handle my d16 lol
$240 to
Mill and hot tank head
Shave, hone, and hot tank block
And file fit rings
Sounds like a good price?

Re: prices on machine work?
Seems fair. You should have went oversized on the pistons .5mm and had them re-bore. To ensure perfect ptw clearances for boost and roundness, although that can still be obtained pending on how the sleeves currently stand

Re: prices on machine work?
I got the p2p0 vitara's, so they are actually the correct 2.92xx bore size for a stock motor, so theoretically, a very light quick hone should result in a good .030 - .040 ptw clearance. At least I'm hoping anyway, I have read and heard good things about these vitara's having great ptw, and no piston slap so...
