pressure relief valves
i searched around but only found one thread. how many of you guys are running them? i understand what they do but are they really that helpful? and final question if these really do help where do they actually get hooked up?
no its a relief valve. greddy makes one. from what i understand it is there in case a boost spike happens and it relieves that pressure over the set boost level
A pressure relief valve is AKA a pop-off valve. It opens at a pre-set psi, and doesn't close until it 'reads' zero psi. Most EMS's aren't as flexable as the ones Hondas can use, and this was usually for older cars that used the factory ECU.
I always make the 'overboost' ignition columns (tapering down to) -6 degrees. I can tell you for sure that -6 degrees of timing under 10psi of boost will not let your motor rev. Even if it does (say a 3.0L with a GT42), you WILL notice something going on... Essentially it feels like a rev limiter, except its not like most boost cuts that cut fuel.
Cutting spark would be ****, but the EMS's that do cost more than I'm willing to pay. IGN cut can be harmful to your turbo and exh valves (only if done for long periods), and to be honest I'd rather burn out a turbo than wash out my rings.
