Post the amount you 'Pay' to Play
man, some of you guys spend the loot on your cars. lol. i can't afford to do that. i have almost everything i need to boost my 91 (excelent condition) integra. i just need injectors, and ecu. when i'm done, AFTER tuning, i'll have $2300 INCLUDING the $1300 i paid for the car.

that's why it's pay to play the more power you make the more money is cost. I can afford it and i just do it piece by piece. But i do have a job that takes care of me.
I have to ask, do any of you guys regret spending all that money on a civic/integra. I guess this is the issue I am having because before I buy everything for my next setup I look at the cost to do things right and with everything including the motor and car I am looking at least $12K and then I think that I always am going to want more power(everyone does) and thats more money.
Instead of spending all the money on a civic/integra, I could get an 03/04 cobra, STI, early 2000's C5 vette , ect and start off that platform. I am not sure the route that I am going to take but in all your opinions, is it worth it?

I bought the car for $6k and it got stolen and torn apart..insurance totaled it out and cut me a check for $6400 and i bought the car back for $243.. cost $1300 to put it back together and then i bought all the turbo parts/kit...
The way i look at it is im into it less than $5k including buying the car.. so $3000-$4000 into the turbo and all for 450whp or so on the stock motor...

97 coupe... buy what makes you happy/ and can afford.
me: I do all my work myself and Ive probably got 5g into my 98 Hatchback because I got alot of really good deals on everything.
I would also advise people to take their time and not build their race car on credit.

750 e for the car (eg coupe)
3000 e for the swap (JDM B18CR)
1200 e nitrous and management (combination of WON, dynotune, FJO and ectune)
500 e fueling (650cc and bosch 044)
1200 e complete suspension (omnipower)
350 e misc
free old scrappy tires and rims
tuning free by me
so 7000e grand total for 193whp/13.3@106mph NA and 320whp/12.3@119mph on spray
now there's the addition of Lenso/M&H and exhaust mani.
an extra 1000 e for near 200whp NA and 330-340 whp on spray and a goal of 11.8@120mph

people buy hondas because of..
A. it's cheap to make them fast, when comparing to other cars tey can afford it.
B. they like honda's
C. They like the underdog mentality.
D. They can build them fast.
E. All of the above
I pick E. I can build a vette but it would take me much longer and it's kinda expected to see a fast vette. not a fast honda.
i recently said i wanted to build a S2000. then i changed my mind after seeing what trannys cost and other parts. With my bills, mortgage car notes utilities. a simple fully built EJ1 is what i can afford, and still have a life.

Yes Myles, but it being a totalled shell, makes it almost of no volume

here at the dutch 'proffesional' dragrace scene they just found out last year there existed fast honda's: 1 mid-low 10 sec crx, 2-3 mid to high 11 sec civic/crx and 2 low 12 sec civic's.
i really like the underdog mentality
in the prof. dragscene we come 4 cil. short as they say
in the jap scene most people see STI's, EVO's, 350Z, supra, skyline as the holy grail.
it's just magic to see those suprised faces

and i just love a screamer...just for a car then
I figure over the last 3 years I have spent close to 40 g's between my 2 turbo cars. Almost about 15 g's in my DA (Ive changed setups 5 times) and over 25 g's in my civic (which never seems to stop spending my money) and I havent even fired it up yet
It'll never stop, its a hell of a better rush than drugs

No one likes to think about how much they have spent but...
i am over the 25k mark!! :.( AND STILL COUNTINg! WTF!
First build blew! That one was around 10k...
started from scratch like many doe to make it even better (which is dumb cuz my prev setup was more than good enough) and i went way to BIG!!
Now i am building a 9sec drag car! WTF!! How did that happen!?!!??
We are all screwed!!! Its never enough!

On my white EG hatch, I have spent around 9500 taking it from stock and almost totalled to done right with a swap, turbo, suspension, interior, etc.
On my new engine build as of 07/02/09, I have spent 8230.91 and plan to spend about another 5000 to make it to the dyno...
I have an addiction to the Hondas I have owned, which includes a fourth gen hatch that I dumped 30K into over a period of 5 years, and a fifth gen coupe with 20K in it before I was court ordered to sell it.

this thread makes me think of how much ive spent on all my cars, and i am now kinda upset. yet happy at the same time cuz i have built a couple nice cars lol
I'm in $6500, including car, shooting for 650 whp and high 9's, not hard (beyond my dubious driving skills) since it's parked next to a similar chassis that ran 10.2's off of 500 whp.
I'll probably hit $7-7.5K once all the small last minute expenses are tallied up. I re-invented the wheel on a lot of it - DIY shock valving, DIY fab, and every trick I have in the book and then some. If I run into any teething problems, add $20 to a grand to sort them out.

my friend bought an entire gsr from a wrecked car auction house for around $2000, swaped the motor, suspension, rims, dash, seats, brakes all in to an eg cx he bought for $750 he painted the car, added some bolt-ons(used),some susp work all for $1750 so the car came to be 4.5k before he added a home made 14g kit (another 1500) that made 252whp with just 7lb boost, has been running for over 2 years, runs low 13's and all for the little amount of 6grand and that was canadian(6canadian=about 5.5 u.s nowadays)

It's fun but it had been stressing for me sorting out dates on which or when it is to do and money is important factor (I try to say to my self "End of July no more spending on the build".
Sure you can buy STi n V8's but here in Australia, you will see STI's, monaro's, Commonwhore, 180sx, S13, s14, s15, skyline, skyline GTR like ants....THEY'RE EVERYWHERE!!! esp the annoying factor of WRX exhaust all sound the same!!!
I love the underdog thing and being unique.
