Post the amount you 'Pay' to Play
Hi Guys and Girls, I want to have a general idea on how much you guys paid to get your car boosted from a stocker to shoot the power level you aimed and achieved.
For myself, I've spent about $12000AUD already just for the internals from Bisimoto, turbo kit from treadstone, oem parts, LSD from MFactory, Fuel pump from Walbro, shippings, taxes and a currently a full engine rebuild. And yet still to come - Hondata S300, Precision 680cc, Glowshift gauges, BC coilover, GFB mach 1, progress rear sway bar and Turbosmart boost tee. So in the end with exhaust fabricated and a dyno tune it would be ~$16500AUD
I'm going to shoot for ~320WHP/same setup as UKAccord (search the thread on accord section under my name) and the cost would be a balance of power and strength/reliability insurance as my Daily Driver.
Thanks.

Re: Post the amount you 'Pay' to Play
i stopped counting back in 2001 when i dropped 8,000 on my build for the first time.
that was a swap, then immediately a build on the swap, i never installed it, and turbo kit.
built and installed all at the same time.
over the years, i probably could have paid off my first house with the money i have spent on my car.

Re: Post the amount you 'Pay' to Play
I recorded every pruchase for my car, including the car itself and total was around $8500 US dollars. Unfortunately all I made in the end selling it was $4500.
Well, it was fun while it lasted...and it is true, you gotta pay to play. Atleast I can go around saying I had an ls/v turbo civic, although it was short lived.

Re: Post the amount you 'Pay' to Play
over $7000
I bought all new parts and a few things extra I probably didn't necessarily need. That includes labor (that I got for a deal) to install the kit, getting my exhaust hooked up, and getting a full dyno tune. It ended up being alot more then I orginally planned for but little parts and misc. things add up quick and tunes arent cheap. Overall I'm happy with the results though.
BTW this was on a stock GSR motor, made 285 whp at 8 psi.

Around $9k for:
93 DX hatch purchase
LS/Vtec w/GSR tranny
Auto to manual swap parts
GSR brakes
ITR MC & booster
SS lines
Hawk pads
Full Poly Bushings
All new tie rods & ball joints
Fully adjustable control arms F&R
Eibach Coilovers
Ebach Sways
RSX Seats
Window tint
& more.....
All work done by myself.
Should have around $12k once I go boosted.....300whp with brakes & suspension that truly perform.
Pay to play?.... definitely :D

Re: Post the amount you 'Pay' to Play
Sanman, what setup are you running? coz that's a bit pricey hey....
IC, most people run about $3K-$6K on basic setup with stock internals making about 200-250hp...and in the $8K-$12K on most for proper built. My car costed $10K AUD when I bought it so in the end with everything running $26K, my hope is to get it into autosalon next year and hopefully get reputation so I can have a good resale value.
You guys seen the 1000Hp Civic with NOS in UK??? MAD!

Re: Post the amount you 'Pay' to Play
I've probably got around 10k in mine right now, but through out the time I've had the car, probably about 15K, maybe more. That's including the stuff I've broke, re-tunes, etc. It's been a learning experiance. I wish I knew then what I know now. I'd have way more money and probably sweeter stuff, but so is life. I try to not really keep track because it kinda sickens me.

Re: Post the amount you 'Pay' to Play
This question...this thread....lol. The answers really aren't gonna be much more than a random poll, and it will certainly not serve as any type of "gauge".
First of all, some people do no work, some do some, some do all...some REALLY do all...like fab everything themselves also. Costs fluctuate greatly because of this. In addition, some people do it right, some don't. Some buy parts that are unnecessary, some buy things twice, some don't. WAY too many variables to even remotely rely on.
In my build experience for customers though, your typical quality turbo setup is going to run between 2500.00 installed up to 4,000, 5000, etc. Depends on components and level of quality. For 320whp, if your speaking in terms of the setup itself ONLY, and you install it yourself, you could certainly spend under 3,000.00...maybe quite a bit less if you buy used and get some deals.
I have a GT3082R, Synapse gate, Greddy BOV, 1000cc inj, walbro, all polished stainless piping and I did the fab for the manifold, piping, downpipe and dump myself. I probably have 1600.00 in the setup itself...add in the rest of my car though (built LS/vtec, clutch, rims, tires, all kind of braking and susp upgrades, interior components, drivetrain add ons, etc) and I'm at about 10,000.00. I've seen guys with lesser cars than I have that have spent 3x what I have though. The manifold on my car I sell for 615.00 but it cost me far less because I made it. I bought all my parts used but in good condition. Got the GT3082R with two hotsides for 550 shipped!
If you take 10 nice cars, and look at the true totals it'll be all over the place depending on the skill of the owner, how much work they did personally, all of the details I stated above.

Re: Post the amount you 'Pay' to Play
high quality parts add up extremely fast. Ive got about 20k (cad) into my dsm.. wheels/tires, built transmission, turbo setup, speed density ems, all high quality parts on the turbo setup, now ive got an engine at the machine shop that is costing more $$$, but once im done playing with the stock motor its going to get more expensive when i make enough power to brake everything again.

Re: Post the amount you 'Pay' to Play
we built an 11 second CRX for the grassroots motorsports magazine 2008$ challenge for 1800 some bucks. we're shooting for making it even faster this year, for same bucks.
i could rebuild my ALMOST 10 second hatch (11.3@127.5) for about 4-5k i believe. i do it ALL myself. that would include the engine (bone stock f23/f22 combo), turbo kit, quaife, buying the car, 1k in body work, etc.

I have around 8k in my car including the price of my 91 hatch which was 3k that came with a b20, lovefab header, roll bar, suspension, etc.
Currently it has a boosted b16 in it.

Re: Post the amount you 'Pay' to Play
Well, lets see here. I bought my 92 Aztech Green DB2 GS-R for 3,000. Dont really know how much I spent for rims, intake, header, etc. Then my turbo build/goodies.
$11,575.
and my acura is currently at my tuner getting a turbo kit install + fully rebuilt head + dyno and tune. My bill is going to be around 4K. and Im still rebuilding my block + sleeving next year! Got to pay to play....Cant we just play instead? lol

Re: Post the amount you 'Pay' to Play
I probably have just over 20k in my 5th gen Accord.
Custom turbo parts, quality shelf parts, etc... yea it adds up quick. Well worth it for me, I enjoy it and dont see me getting rid of the car in the near future.

Re: Post the amount you 'Pay' to Play
About $6-7k into the turbo setup but ~$18000 with everything (rims, brakes, suspension, etc) including my car. For that price i could have gotten a new car, but i wouldn't have found one i like as much and it wouldnt be nearly as quick.

my new car im shooting for less than $5000 total and should be very comparable in power but faster bc its in a hatch and not an integra
