Possible sunk sleeve in AEBS block, pics for help
So ive been having a problem of oil getting into cylinders 3 and 4. I thought it might be a head gasket or rings. Pulled the head and the Cometic head gasket looks ok. Whats weird is on the exhaust side, the bottom left and next bottom left head studs had nasty carbon'd goopy oil on them that smelled like gas and combustion. So i thought it might be lifting the head. Started looking at the sleeves and where they meet against the block, and in 2 spots its like the sleeves sunk .0015". Would this cause a problem. it almost looks like the block wasnt decked after the sleeves were installed. Can i just have the block decked?
Setup is AEBS sleeved block at 83mm. Ross pistons, Pauter rods, Eagle crank, ARP everything. Head was brand new brain crower everything when i put it on and its got about 1200 miles on the setup. Bottom end has about 2500 miles. Was running 22psi of boost on pump gas with 11.5-11.8afr.
I put up a pic to show the 2 spots where the sleeves are below the block surface.
Any suggestions and info is greatly appreciated.

You wouldnt be able to see it in a side pic, but ill try later today. Like i said, its .0015". the rest of the surface is good all the way around. Ive been doin some research and havent been able to find anyone who has had an AEBS sleeve drop.
suck sleeves, whom ever did the sleeves. i had a dart block that wasnt machined properly and the sleeves sunk .0015 about 4 times then i gave up and sued the company (local shop)
if its a reputable place im sure they will have no problem taking care of it. Dont blast the sleevers company name just try to resolve it through them and if they dont want to do anything for you then at that point you can say what you wish.

After cleanin a little bit we put a good staright edge on the block and couldnt get a .0015" feeler to slide under. I was told by alot of people that thats not the problem at all if i cant get at least a .0015" feeler in there.

i had a problem exactly like this with my old aebs sleeved block. the sleeve deck height was a little below the block deck. just enough to feel and catch your fingernail. i had the block and head surfaced like 3 times over 2 years and the problem still persisted. (it ran good, made 400+hp and had good compression and leakdown). i attribute this to the oil/coolant mixing problem i had with that motor. now ive got a benson block with the same head and the mixing problem is completely solved. just my personal $.02
i'm thinking 1.5 thousandths is small enough for the head gasket to take care of it. have you checked the valve seals? don't go decking the block too much or you're gonna end up with pistons smacking the head if you use stock thickness head gasket.
Its not small enough for anything to take care of it period. if the deck hight is different than the sleeve height its a sleeving issue and will giv eyou thousands of dollars and years of headaches. been there done that.
trust me get the sleeves replaced. once time i whiped out a set of cps and the measurement was .0010 which is obviously less than .0015

The other issue is the sleeve that we thought sunk was #2. But that one had no problems at all. The problems were in #3 and 4 and those dont fell bad at all.
Has anyone ever had a Cometic head gasket go bad but not really been able to see it?

The sleeves dont seem sunk going by the details you have said above.
Post some pics of the headgasket and we will be able to tell you more. Is it possible its tune related and you just lifted the head slightly?

the car has been on the same tune for about 4 months. And on 22psi for about 2 months. The afr's are always right around 11.5-11.8 and timing is very conservative. Ill try to get pics of the headgasket. But we had a couple really knowlegable guys look at it and couldnt see anywhere it would have been leaking.
Im just gonna throw an OEM Honda B20 headgasket on it...its all i got for now.

oem is good HG, cometic are good too. there all MLS (multi layered steel) and seal great. i doubt its a HG issue.
but if you want a b20 headgasket i got one brand new 40 bucks
