Default oil leaking from corner of head/block....

just installed my d16z6 motor. After its first startup, I can see oil streaming/leaking down from the front where the head meets the block...distributor side.

The head gasket is new from honda, the head has been resurfaced, and new arp headstuds are used. The block came from another motor.

Want to know what would cause this. I haven't gone to see if I need to re-tighten the headstuds. And if its the block...if I have to resurface it, will the pistons have to come out?

I'll post pics up tomorrow. Thanks.

you will have to disassemble the whole bottom end to deck the block unless you want a ton of little shavings in everything

well, looks like I won't be doing that. Anyhow, I haven't got to looking to see if I need to tighten the head studs. Here's a pic of the oil leak...and this is only after running the car for less then 5min.

When I put My ls/vtec in, I had the same problem,I thought it was the head gasket
leaking but it was coming form the Distributor o ring. i would check that real quick.

Its your vtec solenoid gasket.
I had the same problem. The ruber gasket is like $25 from the dealer.

the dist. o-ring was replaced. If the vtec sol. gasket is leaking, shouldn't it be leaking from the back? I'll have to go and check on that. And I pm'd you Hybrid96EK.

well, its seems luck is never on my side...the problem was valve cover wasn't on tight and oil was seeping through the gasket from the back. It still has a bit leaking somewhere behind the head and block near the thermostat. And I also found out that a bit of coolent is drip'n either on the bottom of the IM somewhere or either from the pipe which connects from the thermostat housing to the waterpump.

I'll have to get underneath the car with a flashlight and find out where the leaks are coming from.

And like I said...luck isn't on my side. My craftman torque wrench fuc'd up on me. Before realizing the big leak was from my vavle cover, I checked my arp headstuds...retightening them...the stud nearest the IM and distributor stripped the threads on the block. Torque wrench didn't even click...I had it set at 65lbs.

I'm thinking of just running it that way until something comes up.
