OKay this motor seems to be an ongoing battle. The first build was fine, when i pulled the head off it showed burn market in between each cylinder. Now im running the same motor, just had to replace the pistons, after 1500 miles or so, i noticed my coolant reservoir always getting low and i have to add to it. At least once a week or so. No leaks anywhere on the motor. I go to pull the valve cover off and this is what i see. I do have head studs, but is it possible that the head is still lifting? As far as the pcv system goes, i just have a tube off the back of the block running down to the ground, and then the breather filter off the valve cover. The car still runs fine. doesnt over heat, and the oil in the pan still looks fine.







nothing like that on the cam caps.

head gasket for sure.i just went through the same thing for 3300 miles,turbo type r ran great,never run hot,oil in the pan always looks good,rad. always low or res. would be low.but every 6 to 7 hundred miles the oil pressure would start to drop....it is deff. the head gasket....don't for get thr copper spray.

The only thing i can guess is that maybe a sleeve sunk. Cause this has happened on BOTH motors. same block and head.

you could purchase or rent a ooling system pressure test kit.. - with that you will hear where the leak is.. as far as valve cover - breather filter becomes a restriction for ventilation unless you clean/replace everytime after several wot runs. - and causing damage.

take the plugs out and turn the motor over.. see if you get water out of the chamber..

sunken sleeves seems to be my vote.

that little goop on yur finger tells me for sure you you probably have a sleeve that has sunk, or depending on what type of sleeves you have coolent might be seeping between the sleeve where they been pressed in the block and dripping into the oil pan. I experienced both problems and it sucks.

i vote sunk sleeve. if you couldnt seal a head gasket either time, its def a sunk sleeve. get the block milled and perhaps run a thicker head gasket.

i didnt think a benson sleeve would sink. Lemme ask you this. Will i be safe for the meantime if i just change my oil every 1000 miles? cause im seriously not pulling this motor out again. NO WAY! its only got 7k miles on it.

lol ive pulled motors that had 2 miles on them.. do it right or regret it later.

If it truely has a sunken sleeve then you have no choice.

ya, the only thing i am forced to do, is pull it and send off the block and get them to make sure its freakin 100% flawless. Same with the head. This is bull **** and im tired of it. I would like to start fresh with another motor but that would just cost more. This is just going to take time and hella patience. im glad i have a daily driver.

Well i had a benson sleeved motor and from day one mine was loosing coolant some how , just like you are saying , my oil cap had the same nasty **** on it and under the v/c and i had less than 2400 miles on it , also the sleeve might not have sank but could be leaking at where it go's into the block at the bottom that was my findings , had my head pressure tested twice and put on 2 head gaskets and still the same thing , not mention i had the head skim cut every time the head gasket was changed , now i have a dart block and same part in the cooling system , hoses, water pump, radiator , and heater core , nothing changed just the bottom end , and no coolant issues what so ever , do a search there was another guy with the same problem with a benson block .

how well did you clean that valve cover from the last time? did it have the same milk shake look to it last time? IMHO if the sleeve sank every thing would look like a milk shake not just the top of the valve cover.

Coolant doesn't lube the bearings too well. Don't do it.

well whats your recommendation for the mean time? i mean its really not severe. I changed my oil today and there was NO sign of coolant in the oil. I know u may say fix it or dont drive it now, but i have no time for now. I will in a month or so though.

Its obivously not recomended to drive on that but yes you can for sure. I drove my D16 for over 8k with milky oil, changed it probably once a month 4-5k and it was fine until i pulled it and built it, never figured out the problem though
