Would it ever be possible to custom make a turbo for any car and bring it in to lets say a smog ref and have them check it out and if it meets smog laws and specs then get a bar sticker here in CA. Is this even possible?? How do companies like greddy and such get their equipment smog certified (bar sticker)?
I'm pretty sure they have to pay (fees) to get the proper CARB exempt license for their products.
also all the turbo related components can't release and exhaust/air into the atmosphere. (no BOV or open down pipes)
so to get a CARB exempt sticker for your own custom turbo kits..........hmmmm........i would have to say its pretty much impossible.

Really... impossible?? If I routed the BOV to recirculate, Wastegate to exit into downpipe (18" down or more of course), have all smog equipment... not possible?
I wonder how much the fees are. Anyone have the smog ref # for norcal? I am really iching to come back to the whole turbo honda world, but would like to be legal this time.

lol, that would be nice, but I'm not trying to make a profession out of this.

bump from the dead because I'm looking into the same thing. I Think non-vtec threw the topic off course because we're not looking for a C.A.R.B. certification sticker, just a B.A.R. approval.
Did you ever call your BAR agency?
I think I'm either going to try and do that or just get a greddy sticker and run the box when I smog.

Never say impossible. Just might be very difficult.

He speaks the truth. I asked three different stations, and each one of them said that unless if it has a CARB sticker, there is no way for it to pass.
