please look over my setup!!
hey whats up guys?? i am kinda new to dual cam Bs but i am by no means new to hondas or Ds!! i currently have a boosted z6 putting down 234whp, but i'm getting kinda tired of it so i picked up a b18b longblock for 250! i will be building it up and shooting for 380-400whp on 93 octane!
my setup will be as followed:
-------bottom end------------
-- Eagle ESP 4340 Crankshaft
-- 81.5mm ROSS 8.5:1 forged pistons
-- Eagle H-beam rods
-- stock sleeves bored out to 81.5
-- OEM gaskets/oilpump/water pump
-- ACL bearings
-- Ross plasma moly race rings
---------Head--------
-- b18b head with some PnP
-- Stage 2 crower turbo cams
-- JGE dual valve springs and titanium retainers
-- ferrea valves
-- aem cam gears
-- blox intake mani with a 68 mm throttle body
------tranny------
-- stock ls hydro tranny
-- 2ms clutch
--resurfaced OEM flywheel
-----turbo setups-----
-- t3/to4e 57trim
-- 3" open dp
-- 38mm wg
-- some kinda cast iron exhaust mani
-- as in of right now:
--2.00" ic pipes from turbo to ic
--2.25" from ic to tb
--27x6x2.5"
is it necessary to upgrade ic pipes??
-------ems------
-- 450cc blue tops
-- crome pro
The things that i will have to most likely upgrade are the injectors, ic pipes, and ic!! but do you think i will be able to get to 400 with this setup?? is this turbo going to be a limiting factor?? too small???
is this setup overkill??

ok heres what i think, this is just me and what id do.
Stick with a honda oem crankshaft, tested to 800+hp, the honda cranks are so strong they actually are what keeps the motor together under high hp applications according to "the old one" aka larry from endyn.
2.5" intercooler piping is what you would want.
Go with honda oem bearings, not bashing acl but if you go with oem honda bearings and measure and select them right you wont have problems, period.

if the guy wants to go LS-T let him go LS-T its his choice and he can makes his goals easily and be very streetable.
to OP: go with 1000cc injectors or higher, like everyone said stock crank unless you want more stroke then get the crower crank, benson sleeves or GE, also ross pistons are great i use them in my dodge the key word there was "dodge" alot of honda owners complain about piston slap or clarence issues with these pistons so "measure twice and cut once", also make sure WHATEVER rods you get that the bolts are very strong and installed correctly, stock bearings with right fitment.
these things are optional but still work good ITR/GSR oil pump and water pump and stage 1 or 2 p-n-p.

unless you are all about the ls-t, id suggest a stock gsr head as well. it will cost you a lot less money. and it gives you a much better base to start from. after the PnP, cams, valvetrain, valve job you are gonna be looking at some serious dough.
1000s are overkill, 750s or 880s would be fine.
my personal preference is also cp/wiseco pistons.

ok so the only reason why i am using the stock ls head is because i am not really good with wires and wiring up vtec and such!
where can i get some cp/wiesco pistons??
ok so, so far heres my new setup
-micropolished stock crank
- h-beam eagle rods with ARP 2000
- acl bearings
gsr oil pump
gsr water pump
SLEEVES ARE NOT AN OPTION!
i am still debating on the head because this will be my first honda swap, i will be going from a d16z6-t to a b18b-t, or ls/vtec-t???
ive also heard some not so good stuff about the ls/vtec, knowing that the head can rev up to 8k safely and the blocks redline is like 6.8k? worries me, and how do i get oil to the vtec solenoid?? i would love to have an ls/vtec but i dont think it will be as easy as a complete b18b!! any suggestions??

GroundZero sold hundreds of LS Vtec's that were boosted...
If you're planning to boost your car I wouldn't let a little wiring hold you back. Its not like its well documented or anything.

will a obd1 b16 head work the same as the gsr head?? or is my compression going to increase, is the flow the same??
ok so ive made up my mind and i'm going n/a ls/vtec with a turbo ready block and then next winter i will get it boosted!
i have a chipped p28 ecu, will i be able to use it with the b18c head??

if your just gonna have a block sitting around ready to be boosted, sleeve it now. It will save you alot of work in the future when you decide you like boost but you crave more.
Also I have heard bad things bout the crower turbo cams. Can anyone else confirm this? I saw a dyno sheet where the guy actually lost like 30-40 whp or something like that over the stock cams. Mind you this was at around 350-400 whp I do believe.

Dude, to bad I am not home right now. I could wire the car for you. I live in Richmond and my wife is from Mech. You are running a SOHC Vtec right now arnt you?
What car is this going into? PM me with more info and I will give you my opinion

Hey, if i decide to build the bottom end and then later down the road go ls/vtec-t, an i still use the gsr water pump and gsr timing belt with the stock b18b head?? just to get htat stuff out of the way so when i go ls/vtec that one less thing to worry about!
