Please advise me
Hi everyone first of I’m a newb to Hondas. So here I go I just picked up a 2000 civic Ex stick ALL STOCK I MEAN ALL. I would like some advice from people that know what they’re doing with Hondas there’s nothing wrong with it so I can start upgrading it of the get go, this is what I’m thinking of doing to the car my goal is 300whp car for the street (LIL FUN tuner with a BOOST) I’m thinking of going with a B18b1 swap to start. Then B16a2 head (LS vtec). Step 3 type r trans or 00 SI trans (SAME THING ?). Step 4 sock setup on some boost no more then 9/10 psi ( want to be safe) full tune for sure then pistons rods and head work down the way and upping the boost to 15 psi with sporting mod air manifold , fuel, ect.. so my question is am on the right path or am I way of and wasting my time ? and I’m looking to put $300 in to the car every month so going with K –swap is a lil out of my range and I think D-series is a waste of time (no offense to any one ) H is weak (what I heard ). Any help is really a preheated and thanks for YOUR time.

I would stick with either a full ls motor or a full b16 motor. Do not swap a ls/vtec in it. Your on the right path but I would do as much as you can at once saves time later on instead of redoing the same steps.

I have a built and turbo ls, but if your gonna end up build a block I would do b16 because the stroke is shorter so you can rev it more in my opinion. If you were not planning on revving the **** out of it a gsr or ls would be perfect. Ls is cheap and you can easily make 350 to 400 on stock sleeves. Everyone I talk to says anything over 400 even 350 with out traction solutions its stupid to drive on the street.

Well stock vs. stock ls is like 7100 and a b16 is 8200. But if your goal is only 300whp you could just turbo a stock LS for cheaper on like 12-14 psi and be around 300 give or take.

Re: Please advise me
haha yeah i could see that. But to make a ls rev more you need arp rod bolts or a rod and piston combo and springs and retainers and valves if you can. Weak link in an LS when it comes to revs is the rod bolts and springs.

Re: Please advise me
If 300hp is your goal you don't need to build the motor. These engines can withstand that kind of horsepower without issue.
Spend the money on a nice turbocharger setup and an even better tune. You'll be all set that way.

Depends, it all varies on price some people think they have a gsr motor and try to get like a grand which is way out of range. I would pay like 300 or 400 for a motor with normal miles, 200 for an ls tranny, axles maybe like a 100, and for ecu a p72 like 50 bucks. but it really depends like i bought a 94 integra with a ls for 700 bucks drove it home. it really all depends if you keep your eye open you can find good deals.

Re: Please advise me
It's best to piece together your kit yourself. Works two ways, one, you can get good parts where good parts matter and save some money on cheap parts where it doesn't (IC piping for instance). Also, you learn all of the parts that you need and how they all work so if you have a problem you have a better chance of solving it.
