Piston taper??? for those that have or are building engines
i measured a set of arias pistons i just bought. there is a .044 inch (little more than 1mm) taper from the piston skirts to the crown of the piston.... that is.. there is a 20 thousandth of an inch piston to wall clearance on either side of the piston at the very top. the skirts are perfect (.004 total clearance.) does this seem excessive to anybody?? these measurements are accurate within .001 inch

The part that houses the rings expands a lot with temperature, so it has to be smaller than the skirt.

Did you buy them used or brand new from Arias? Call customer service at Arias. They will talk to you. Taper sound excessive but could be ok if that is how they build them.

the pistons are brand new. i got them at golden eagle mfg as part of their sleeve/piston/bore and hone package. they were custom ordered (84mm.) i'll stop by arias on monday with the pistons and let u guys know what they say.

If GE's machine shop did the hone to the piston, I'm sure it will be fine but never hurts to check. Is it going into your delSol? Thought I was the only hardcore in Irvine
