Default Piston size question?

I went to a local dealer to check the prices on pistons for my D16Y8. For JE 9.0:1 the guy quoted me at $376 for the set, but that's no what caught my attention, it was the fact that he said I have to get a set of overbored pistons. According to him, nobody makes a stock bore for my motor. Not that I particularly mind boring since that'd be a nice way to add a few cc's to the mix, but I hadn't heard of this before. So can you guys confirm this?? Also, I have a friend with a ser of new SRP's 9.0:1, assuming the same $$, which should I spring for the JE's or the SRP's? And what's a good bore for me to jump to safley (on a sleeved block). I'm thinking 80mm from the stock 77mm, seem like too much? Stick to 78-79mm?

he probably just means 0.020" "over bore", this does not mean that your boring out your motor but these are "overtolerance pistons" because your motor is so old that the sleeves have gotten a little bigger and oval/diagonal etc...so that when the machine shop goes to align hone your cylinders they will even them out to 0.020" over. thats why JE's come in three sizes standard bore - for newer engines that still have factory clearance on piston to wall, then 0.020" over bore for your case mentioned above and a real overbore for guys wanting to maximize displacement thru bore.

remember, that price porbably won't come with the pins, locks, and I know for sure that the rings are not included in that price...

Did he quote you $376 for JE's or SRPs? Cuz that price is damn good for JE's. It could be beneficial to get a "slight" overbore. Dont go crazy on it, go about .5mm over bore. JE's can custom make whatever bore u want really. If you're going sleeved, you can probably go over 2mm overbore.. but I'd rather just stick as close to stock cuz when increasing displacement with bore enlarging, cylinder temps increase.

Yea the $376 was for the JE's. So I take it I should probably stock to those then.. as for boring, I'll take your advice Ron and stick closer to stock bore, maybe like you said .5mm over.
