Default piston and rod install

im toying with the idea of getting some forged pistons and rods for my gsr. how much would a shop charge to install them and bore out the block to 81.5mm? just a ballpark would be nice.

the machining may be an extra fee since the shop who is building your motor may have to send it out to a local machine shop unless they have the tools, knowledge and equipment to bore the block out themselves

if you are on boost stock bore is just fine, only big hp goals are really needed to extend the bore, and those are usually done by more experienced people, no offense....... but my machinist charges 150 bucks for bore and hot tank

ok so if i stuck with stock bore then i should expect about 400-500 for piston and rod install. what bearings do i need to buy, or just re use the stock ones?

dont reuse the bearings, u can get a set of acl's or a set of oem honda bearings.

i would suggest 81.5mm bore. it will let you start fresh.

i'll second the 81.5mm bore option....its best to start fresh. I would also go w/ standard Honda bearings, but take the engine to a shop, have them machine all the parts and then order bearings....it would suck if you bought parts and needed oversized bearings due to machining

yea, standard honda bearings are greens, but you have to get the oil clearance measured with a mic.....you don't want to throw a bearing within the first seconds of start-up.....that would suck

let the shop order the bearings or have them measure your clearances and give you the specs so you can order them....i wouldn't do anything until they get you the numbers because like Young Noob said, you could spin a bearing easily or lose oil pressure due to a larger gap in the bearings
