Might have broke a ring land or just cracked a ring.. Doesnt seem likely with the parts that you have.. Either way I would check into it before starting or driving the car any more..

Well if the motor was running before I would say the worst that could have happend is that you cracked a piston ring an maybe messed up the piston and scared the sleeve wall in which case youll need to put a new sleeve in that cylinder and get a new piston and rings.. Also rebuild the entire motor since you have to disassemble it for the machine shop to put the sleeve in if its that bad..

True.. I would do a compression and leakdown test before you pull anything apart.. Can you take a pic of what you found in the pan and post it on here..

Well if it really is a ring, whats fucked up is that cylinder, and you'll need to resleeve and replace the piston. You might be able to get away with boring out if the scoring isnt too deep, but that means 4 new pistons.

Re: piston ring in oil pan... (Br1t1shguy)
Next question, it's part of which ring? What lead to this? How was it running before you pulled the pan off? It's quite difficult for a piece of ring to make it into the oil pan. especially since ring land failures tend to happen on the top at which point the pieces normally go out the exhaust.
