piston hit spark plug??????????? why???
well-- i have a 4-cylinder, 4-stroke jet ski-- its a 1500cc. It started running sluggish. I pulled the plugs and the plug in cylinder #2 looked like it was scraped across the ground. I then looked down into the plug hole and it looks like the piston is a little chewed up. what would have caused this?????? i figured somebody on here would have the answers. thanks

Could be too high a compression piston or the block and/or head could have been milled down too far. Obviously I'm assuming you are using the correct spark plugs.

That sounds very strange, could be just detination. Post a pic of the bottom of that spark plug.

can you get pics of the plug?
any pinging or detonation that you could hear before this? cause maybe you got some bad or contaminated gas which you detonated on... that chewed up the piston and now you have that debre in the cyl. hitting the plug when the piston is at tdc.

First turn off the caps lock. If you detonated and chipped up your pistons then the next step would be new pistons... Take a flashlight and look into the cylinder and see if you can see any other damage.

why would i need new pistons?? i know of a 800_++++ whp civic that runs with chewed up pistons</TD></TR></TABLE>
yea good luck running some chewed up pistons when you develop a hot spot on one and melt your pistons from preignition

Did you flip the ski and not turn if over the correct way and get water in the motor then started it and bent or streched the rod?

Re: (bunnyrabbit)
Water in gas will make it run like ****. Last year somehow my ski got mositure in the cylinders and they rusted to the cylinder walls. I had to take a sledge hammer to beat the pistons out. To this day I still have no clue what happened. I always flush it very well and then pull the plugs and spray some oil in there before I leave it set for the week. Been doing the same thing for years never had a problem last year I did.
Did you run the ski a ground or suck up any small pebbles or rocks? I use to have skis come in and you would be amazed at what I would find when I took apart the motors.
