Default Piston Choice.

I have just built a boosted LS and it lasted about 600miles on 7psi. I had some boost controller issues allowing alteast boost spikes of 20psi atleast twice that I know of. I understand that this is way to much for a bone stock b18a1 but **** happens. My setup is a t3/t4 with a tial 38mm, cast manifold, 3in. down pipe, DSM 450 injectors, and a base mapped pr4 which is base mapped for 8psi. This morning it boosted atleast 10psi and cooked the engine. I believe it cracked a piston. My question is what pistons should I get. I am looking for the best bang for my buck and am only looking at a maxium of 300whp.

I wouldn't run stock pistons at 300whp. I guess you could do it but if youre spending the time and money to rebuild it, just spend a few hundred extra to do it right. You also need to make sure your block is ok. If your pistons blew and scratched the sleeves you will have to bore or hone.

Stock pistons will handle 300whp without a problem if you have a good tuner. If you plan on running it again on a basemap then stop now and put it back to stock with no turbo. A basemap reguardless of how much boost its set for is exactly that a base to start tuning with, good enough to get the car running and over to a tuner that is close by if not then should be towed/trailered there. Keep that in mind next time. if you rebuild it then do not run it on the base map and think its going to last.

Thanks guys. I have done a little more research that I wish I had done from the get go. A base map is not for the street. O well, live and learn right. Thanks
