Default pilot bearing removal

Is there a way to remove the pilot bearing without removing the flywheel, and without using a puller/slidehammer?

can it be pryed out w/ a screwdriver?

No, you cannot remove it without removing the flywheel.

Yes you can remove it without a puller/hammer, just use a large socket and a hammer, place it on the bearing and hit the socket.

Use the same method to put the new bearing back into the flywheel.

let me guess, you dont have 12pt sockets with 1/2" drive, well Snap-On is having a sale I think it'll only cost you an arm and a leg - if you have good insurance.

Heh unless you drill out the flywheel you have to take it off... since there is a lip that holds it against the crank...

by the way, you only need to torque it to 118 Nm six times.

It's pretty hard when the engine is out of the car.
