Pics of a Block That I Have......Do You Think That It's Ok??????
Alright so I got my hands on this block from a friend of mine and he told me it was sleeved. Well when I got the head off of the block this is what I found:
http://f1.pg.photos.yahoo.com/.../da6b
When he bought the car he was told that it was sleeved with JE Pistons (9.2:1) and Eagle Rods. The pistons are definatly not stock and do look lower compression and I have not dropped the oil pan to see if the rods are indeed Eagles, but the sleeves look a little funny. Between all three meeting points of the sleeves there is a hairline crack between them. Now I thought that all Honda Sleeves were connected, but some have told me that those sleeves may be designed like that. I am not sure what kind of sleeves they are, but I am assuming probably LA Sleeves. Didn't know if I could get any input from you guys as in to what you guys thought of the block and if you guys thought that it would be safe to put the time and money into trying to run the block. Any feedback is appreciated.

to be honest... those look like benson sleeves. it's a solid sleeve on top and the ledge from the stock sleeves cut down about 2" from the deck, so the sleeves sit on top of the ledge...
what bothers me is why the gap between the sleeves are so big and uneven? as if the sleeved began to rotate sideways

other than to verify the internals of the motor, why you take it apart?? was the motor in good running condition? how did the compression check out? im just wondering sure those sleeves look different then ones nowadays but they might just be an older series of sleeves..

i dunno about those being BENSON sleeves. i dont think DAN would make any sleeves that have that much of a gap.

The car sat for 8 months. When it was running he only drove on it for around 3000 miles before letting it sit when he moved to Cali. We tried to do a compression test on it before ripping the car apart, but the car would never turn over due to an electrical mallfunction. They are definatly not stock sleeves, but not sure on if this would be a safe block to run on or not......

have you thought about getting the guys name who david bought the car from and asking jotech who they had it sleeved by?
If I remember I could swear they said that block was built by JG, but if I also remember jotech used to use benson sleevs about 3 years ago and they had some problems... around the same time that block was built i think.

I have talked to David and he said that he is going to have to find all the guy's information and stuff, but we will see. I haven't contacted JoTech yet, but maybe I can talk to BlapBlap!!! and he can find something out for me.

You can't really see the gaps on Benson blocks. Not that I've seen anyway. They look as if they were one piece.

drop the oil pan foolio, then check to see if the inside of the piston skirts are stamped with the name of the manufacturer . . . I know some do this.

naw, I seriously doubt it. haha. but at least if you find out who it was manufactured by then you will know if darton can resleeve it. (or if anyone else can resleeve for that matter)

Here's my sleeved block. Not only is there no gap between the sleeves, but the machining is so tight, it looks like one piece.
Something is wrong with that one, either it was done improperly, or the sleeves have moved since original installation.
