Default the phantom boost leak

hey guys. i got 2psi and thats it.

i can hear a sizable leak sounds like its coming out near the BOV / throttle body.

the BOV is NOT the cause. i removed it and bolted down a steel plate in its place. still did it. i originally had the flange held in place with RTV and zipties and i thought it blew out. so i ripped it off and sealed the hole. still boost leak.

i jbwelded the flange back on and STILL boost leak SOMEWHERE

i have greddy kit with no intercooler only 2 charge pipes.

i got all new clamps today and redid all the greddy ones.

where oh where is my boost going? any help appreciated.

i took off the throttle body someone said the paper gasket can give out with boost. but it was fine. putting that back on tonite.

i am at a loss.

what are you using to bleed boost away from your map sensor? if you use the fishtank valves, it is possible they went bad. This happened to me as well a long time ago, purchase the missing link or get new bleed off valves. if you do have the missing link, is it installed properly? are you throwing a cel?

he is using the EMS, no need for check valves......He also replaced the charge pipe, so jb weld wouldnt even come into play

with no BOV when i try to spool the turbo i hear psssssssssssssssssssssssss (my precious boost vents to the atmosphere) and when i get off the throttle, i rear plplplplplplpl like a fart as the pressure spike in the charge pipe escapes from the motherF@cking leak. its in the charge pipes somewhere.

i pulled the line off the WG...still just 2psi boost.

i have been owned.

Is your wg leaking precious boost?

My suggestion:
Veg in front of the TV tonight with a few beers. Get up tomorrow having not thought about your car all night, then work from the mani to the throttle body checking for leaks.

Do you think one of your vacuum sources could be loose or not plugged and the air is coming out? I dont know how much of a difference it would make, just a thought.

pretty ******* bulletproof. it came with the bov and was used to block it off. a differnt bov was being used on the car apparently.

falconGSR: whatever the **** it is
falconGSR: its way beyond me
falconGSR: and my ghetto engineering didnt have anything to do with it
SCMGatorEngineer: did you check the coupler off the turbo?
falconGSR: yup
falconGSR: redid it
falconGSR: same thing
falconGSR: pssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssshhhhhhh then let off and pfpfpfpfpfpfpfpfpf
falconGSR: so
falconGSR: i take the upper pipe off
falconGSR: and say...down with the bov flange
falconGSR: i was convinced everyone was right
falconGSR: hit that ****** with a hammer and the jbweld gave finally
SCMGatorEngineer: lol
falconGSR: got some gasket material, covered the hole, and duct tape the **** out of it..its not leaking. never was.
falconGSR: then i put 3 hose clamps on the tb coupler
falconGSR: STILL no boost
SCMGatorEngineer: LOL
SCMGatorEngineer: hahahaha
falconGSR: and the thing is...no matter what i do to the bov hole that i cut, the sound is the same...rtv, jb weld, 1/4 roll of duct tape...its NOT the BOV, flange, or hole itself.

put a new throttle body gasket on
disconnected and plugged the EVAP purge solenoid line

i'll have the BOV flange welded in on monday. but thats not gonna solve the problem.

Joe, didn't you play with the wastegate setting or something? Could you have done something that you werent sure of with that. I have no Idea, but maybe this is where the problem is. Although you said that you took off the vac line to it, so by rights, with no vac line you should have overboosted, correct?

yeah. i should have

i did lengthen the arm slightly, which should crack open the WG earlier, but with the line off it should have stayed closed and overboosted.

whatever the problem is, it wasn't something i knowingly did wrong. whatever it is, i'll learn from it, cause at this point, its completely beyond me!

hmm, im thinking. Okay this is totally crazy, BUT .. could you leave the car in neutral and have a buddy floor it. While its being floored, open the hood and look around and try to listen for a noise and feel around (carefully) for leaks. I mean it might sound gay, but what else is there to do. Or have art do that and youll be in the car

a guy a wile back had this same problem and since you are using the ems you might be affected by the same **** (because you upgraded your injectors). it was his injectors. they were not seated well, i dont quite understand how the leak could flow that much air but after he tighend the fuel rail everthing was fixed.

good thinking about the injectors. i didnt even think of that.

fred, u dont need two people to floor the car in nuetral, u can do it by yourself by using the throttle on the intake manifold

Not if you're checking the charge pipes under the car.
