Default Passing Emissions in NJ

Whelp, I am not sure if i will be able to procure a new inspection sticker due to more strict regulations in NJ. Has anyone had any luck passing emissions in nj on a mild turbo setup? Any ideas on what to do in order to get it to pass?

i didn't even attempt to do state inspection when i was turbo'd, i just knew a shop that would pass me for like $70.

As long as you have a catalytic converter and pass the basic inspection, you will pass. I've had my car through a few times, and every time I get really nervous and every time they tell me flat out, they don't care. Inspections done in Rahway, NJ and Edison, NJ.

I am hoping I will find a shop still willing to do so in south jersey.......

This will be the last resort for sure. I really don't see how they will not even consider the emissions test.........

I've done it 3 times. 1st time passed immediately. 2nd time failed due to high NOx I believe. Fixed the fuel mixtures and passed the 3rd time. The only thing they commented on was how stiff my clutch was.

1994 Acura Integra LS with a HMT turbo setup.

Hmmm, this is interesting........

I know it is more difficult to get a sticker when you try to pass and end up failing. I will roll the dice and try to find a shop to buy one and if not then I will try my luck through th e DMV.....

You've only heard wrong things. If you fail, go back in 30 days I believe, they only test you for the thing(s) you failed for. That is of course if you don't have any blatant issues like non working lights.

This isn't CA where they tow your car if you have it modified. Not to mention, they aren't police. The worst they can do is fail you. Then you can go pay $150 for a sticker.

On 96+ cars, they plug in a scanner and check for codes. If you dont have a stock ecu, you are not going to pass.

I was there when my friend's 2G GSX passed, and did it with flying colors. 6 bolt with pistons, rods, 2G head, bigger turbo, FMIC, 3'' turbo back with a magnaflow cat. This was at the Mt. Holly inspection DMV.

Yea I am still a bit hesitant. I know my tuner (Chris at Xenocron) said it would be very tough passing emissions with my setup without some fine tuning to say the least. I have a conservative tune on the rich side but I am not certain what range the car sees on the rollers at the dmv.

Some people have gotten away with saying their car was too low and they didn't want to damage the bumper and they didn't bother with the rollers.

Would that mean they would only check emissions during idle?

Im out driving it tonight, hopefully no cop pulls me over........

This whole thing is retarded. If your fuel mixtures are off, the fail you. Big deal, you look at what it says and you add or remove fuel as needed and go back and retest. Not a big deal.

Rather than putting it on the rollers, I think they have you put it in neutral and bring the RPMs up to like 1700 and than 2300 or something like that.

Thanx for your input asshat...... My tuner is over 2 hours away and I am not capable of adding or removing fuel since I don't know how to tune or have the software to do so. Please go back to lurking unless you have something that has substance to add to the thread......
