Parts/check list needed for build
Okay...here we go...I am currently awaiting my engine from HMOTORSONLINE - I talked to Steve on Friday and he said it should be here on Tuesday. (jdm b16sir2 complete change over) (Hopefully) - I have been waiting for it for almost 4 weeks now. (some kind of shipping ordeal) - Anyways...I am building this engine for boost! I am going to go ahead and start ordering internal parts for the motor. Just want to make sure I am on the right track.
Looking to achieve 350-400 WHP!!
This is my first build like this, I have had 2 all motors before but never done any kind of internal work or boost. So their may be some things I am missing, and thats why I am on here. Some things I am not to sure about...I will put a * next to these.
The car is a 93 honda civic hatchback (d15z1 currently powers it - if anyone wants it let me know - 165k miles runs good) Car is sitting on 13" HX wheels lowered about 1 1/2 inches with tokico blues and adjustable springs.
LIST
ARP headstuds
Eagle Rods
Wiesco/CP 9.1 pistons
*bearings?
*oem/cometic HG?
supertech valve springs/retainers
Supertech valves
Crower stage 2 turbo camshafts
aem cam gears
*RC440cc injectors
*68mm throttle body?
edlebrock victor x IM
walbro fuel pump
msd ignition
*distributor?
*oil catch can?
*turbonetics turbo (size?)
*Ram horn exhaust manifold
(already have piping/plumbing/intercooler from a buddy)
*hondata/neptune/chrome
* Trans - I did not order the LSD trans when I purchased the motor because I do not want to use the b16 trans b/c of the short gears...I think I will just sell it and find a gsr trans with LSD or a b18 LS trans and add LSD
Surely I am missing things here and there...but I want to go ahead and get this list started and get everything in order before I start placing my orders for this stuff.
Like I said I'm trying to achieve 350-400whp...if there is some stuff I don't need or extra please let me know...like a fuel rail...I have heard the stock ones can support up to 450-500hp??
Feel free to add any 2cents/flames/etc.
THANKS! Jon

Re: Parts/check list needed for build
You are definatly going to need injectors alot bigger than 440s....
I would probably keep the b16 trans....and change the 4th gear to a gsr 4th, and change the 5th to a LS 5th.

Okay...so...1-3 with the b16 will work fine? I figured they would be too short for turbo. And what size injectors we talking...like 550cc or 660's??

Re: Parts/check list needed for build
ARP headstuds - Yes
Eagle Rods - Yes
Wiesco/CP 9.1 pistons - Yes
*bearings? - OEM Honda
*oem/cometic HG? Either is fine
supertech valve springs/retainers>>> This stuff is optional in my opinion. Definitely helps
Supertech valves>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> but a set of GSR/ITR cams and a stock valvtrain
Crower stage 2 turbo camshafts>>>> can handle 350-400. But hey, if money isn't a prob..
aem cam gears - Yes
*RC440cc injectors - ID1000 ftw. They are phenomenal injectors.
*68mm throttle body? -
edlebrock victor x IM - Yes
walbro fuel pump - Yes
msd ignition - Not needed
*distributor? - Stock dizzy
*oil catch can? - Wouldn't hurt
*turbonetics turbo (size?) 57 or 60 trim t3/t4
*Ram horn exhaust manifold - Sexy... but a Spoolin' Performance Log does the trick also
(already have piping/plumbing/intercooler from a buddy)
*hondata/neptune/chrome- Depends on what your tuner is willing to use. I like Neptune RTP
* Trans - I did not order the LSD trans when I purchased the motor because I do not want to use the b16 trans b/c of the short gears...I think I will just sell it and find a gsr trans with LSD or a b18 LS trans and add LSD. - GSR Trans are ideal. I'm using an LS. It's nice
Eagle Rods - Yes
Wiesco/CP 9.1 pistons - Yes
*bearings? - OEM Honda
*oem/cometic HG? Either is fine
supertech valve springs/retainers>>> This stuff is optional in my opinion. Definitely helps

Re: Parts/check list needed for build
Yeah..I actually have some innovative motor mounts from my last car that will fit...got them and never put them on before I sold it! But you think I will need some after market axles with 350-400whp? Thought those were something I could get away with being stock.
Def a 3" custom exhaust from my local performance shop.
Prob just go with a standard tial 38mm wastegate.
As for a BOV just find one with a sound I like.
And probably a 6puck clutch?
Damn...I didn't even see you went thorough my list and marked yes and made comments...THANKS!! So your saying a stock valvetrain will be okay? And just slap some ITR/CTR cams in it?? I mean...money isn't a big deal...I make okay money but would still like to be as efficient as possible with the spending...and get some reliability with my HP goals. (plus I like being able to say - "Yeah...its that quick and I only have this much $$$$ in it!!)

Depending on your driving style, it's possible to get away with stock axles. I do, but that's because I don't launch from a dig, harsh shifting, etc. Its typically not the power that breaks axles. Its the torque from launching it hard.
Yea. A Competition stage 3 or Spec stage 3+ clutch will do you well.
As far as the valvtrain, you are correct! GSR/ITR cams are proven power makers. There are numerous threads regarding this. They are capable of 400+ hp on turbo apllications. Granted, there are $800 cams that may do the job more "efficiently" but honestly, that's $800 better spent elsewhere IMHO.

Re: Parts/check list needed for build
I just installed a hondata/omni 4 bar map sensor on my car...I would highly recommend it, no wiring to mess with, bolts in stock location! The only thing that had to be done was a few clicks on hondata s300 and the install was done!

Re: Parts/check list needed for build
Ohh...you said GSR camshafts! Soo GSR camshafts are better than stock b16 camshafts?? I thought they were pretty much the same. Anyways...well I'm glad to know that I shouldn't have to upgrade the whole valvetrain...that is one of the most expensive upgrades I was planning on doing. Well it seems like I have a pretty good idea of what my order list should consist of...thanks for the help fellas! If I have anymore questions or anything I will be sure to ask.
THANKS!
