Overheating Problems... Cant Solve!
Ok well my car lately since it has been getting really hot in florida has been overheating! I cant figure out the problem... I have a full coolant resivour and havnt lost ANY coolant. No smoke comes out the back. I have an pwr radiator, and a slim line 12" intake fan... and thats it for cooling. I have seen people running the same cooling setup and not have any problems. I am wondering if anyone knows what it could be...
I also have a bar and plate intercooler the precision 750hp one. If anyone has and thoughts or ideas what it could be let me know!
I also have a cometic headgasket... the high horsepower one! ANY HELP OR IDEAS WILL HELP PLEASE!
EDIT: When it overheats usually it will go up to middle of the temp gauge and hang around there or SLOWLY escalate before I turn it off. If turn my heat on full blast it rarely overheats. Once it overheats to the middle of the temp gauge Ill turn it off leave it off for 5 seconds and start it back up and then its back to normal... or if its overheating and I roll up the sunroof it overheats faster! I just need ideas HELP!

thermostat, headgasket, water pump...im guessing its one of those 3.
edit: probably not headgasket because u aren't loosing oil or blowing white smoke

"Common over heat problems
T-Stat---usually it is because of this piece of **** that you overheat.
Bubbles in cooling system. 2nd biggest reason, you didn't bleed enough, you have to leave the car idling for like a half hour to get all the bubbles out with the heater on.
Rad Cap is bad--wont hold pressure.
Leaking coolant somewhere---this can happen only at WOT and not at idle so its hard to find sometimes.
Make sure you fan is coming on. I wired mine to stay on always when car is on.
Worst case scenario is headgasket is leaking exhaust gas into coolant system. You can sometimes see this if you look in your rad resevior and see bubbles coming up. A mechanic can do a hydrocarbon test and tell you if exhaust gasses have been getting into your motor."
Follow these. I bet its your tstat. Sometimes they just go bad, especially when it starts getting hotter out.

check for airflow problems thats what i have figured out what my problem i am haveing with the same ic blocking my fluidyne. no airflow it overheats on the highway (not city)
Im thinking about it being airflow... because it really never started happening until the summer... because during cooler season it was fine. Is there a method to check if its the thermostat? Im thinking its airflow because that intecooler is huge and it could be block the radiator a lot! The fan is a pusher... Its really small to so it might not be doing a good job I might need a larger one... anymore ideas?

I had a little problem with heating up and I had a 10" pusher(680cfm) fan on my fluidyne radiator. If you utilize the stock fan , well from my 93 civic stock fan was (650cfm) but had a shroud and that makes a difference. Since I could not use that stock fan at the time I had to upgrade to a FAL fan which was almost double the CFM at 1200 it is a puller fan and has a shroud also, so this could be a big part and is kinda what your figuring out now.
So if you don't push air through the entire Radiator your not using the radiator to full potential.
Bump for REAL HEAT was 125 all last week in Kuwait ugh
OH my HMMWV never over heated yet but it is a slug(5,700lbs) I need a weight reduction and maybe need a MASE tunning

im with b20TDC. I just boosted my second honda a 99Si and i have a super huge Garrett bar/plate core, they are one of the densest around, and on the interstate the car will start to slightly over heat, but in the early morning and late night, it is fine.
So...i got a FAL PUSHER fan coming monday, with a huge alum. full race CSF radiator coming monday with a spoon low temp thermostat with some crazy coolant that my dad knows of that is suppose to be great.
My car does this cuz each day its 95 degrees with a heat index of 103 where i live.
stock fan, stock single core half size radiator with 134,000 miles on it cant keep up, im sure its old and clogged with particles and deposits, so i hope once my goodies come all will be well, cuz its my only car and i cant really drive it when its mid-day damnit.
Im taking my bumper off later today and driving and see if its any better

I actually have a similar problem. My car will only overheat when I am driving up hill. I thought it might be a tuning issue, but it isn't. I can boost my car hard all day long, but the temp won't go up. I am not even in boost when it overheats. It does not overheat a lot. It goes just a lil past half, when usually it's under half.
I don't believe I have a blown headgasket. I've had a small leak before, and usually the temp will creep all the way to the top, and also push coolant out. I bled the system and I hope that helped. Someone mentioned that it might be, because of the fact my huge *** Precision Intercooler is not lettting enough air to my C&R radiator.

i had a PTE 750hp intercooler, fluidyne half wide civic radiator, and a slimline fan, 12 inch i belive, and it never had a problem overheating. the only time it had a problem overheating was when i didnt loop the coolant hose from the intake manifold flange to the T-Stat housing.
id recomend re-bleeding your coolant systems once more, ive had some really lame experiances with air in the sytem. but hey, live and learn right?

i have too been having overheating problems lately...they all started when i upgraded my turbo setup...im thinking that the fullrace 4 inch dp is sitting really close to the radiator and not letting the water cool off properly..has anyone else experienced this???
autozone sells a radiator fan controller that lets you adjust when your fans go on, it is fully independent and has its own probe, wires straight to the battery ~$20
I am having overheating problems with my freshly built GSR. I am also running the Precision 750 intercooler and a Koyo half size. After going through 4 thermostats and checking them in a pot on the stove, I have come to the conclusion that it is a cooling issue with the radiator. It is just not getting enough cool air flow. It does fine while cruising, but escalates when i stop. I do not think a cooler thermostat will help, for the radiator is unable to cool the water. To bad we dont have very many options for this big of an intercooler.

Here is my experience on the whole thing, last year on my 92 hatch I ran a stock radiator with a 12 puller fan and had a precision 750hp core in front of the car. The bumper was cut around the intercooler so nothing was in the way of the intercooler.
I never had a single problem with overheating.
Over the winter I bought a brand new bumper cover and put it on only cutting the grill area out of it. The radiator, fan and intercooler setup are the same from last year but only now every pass I make at the track my car is ready to overheat.
My problem is definitely not enough air coming through to the radiator and wasting money on a bumper cover that I'm about to chop up again..hehe

Well the thing is I was driving and making a turn after being idle for a minute and as I was making the turn the car shuts off! I thought it was the alternator, but none of the lights went dim or anything. Then as im rolling I try to start my car and it wouldnt start! So we pull over and check the oil GOOD... check coolant GOOD then I try to start and you hear one click... so I was guessing it was the starter at first so a friend of mine took a flashlight and as I turned it over banged on it and started right up! So then I let it sit for couple hours then tried to start it again and it worked and drove it home!
But last night it didnt overheat anytime I had the heat blasting in the car and didnt overheat... Im hoping its an airflow problem, because its not thermostat because upper and lower radiator hoses are hot! Not leaking coolant because coolant resivours full and cant be headgasket for same reason, and no smoke! Ahhh Only thing can be airflow?

What would your car do before you changed the thermostat?

Haha....
Is your coolant overflow resevoir getting cruddy? I am having overheating problems and my overflow has been cruddy for a long time. I am thinking that crud also coats the little passages in the radiator which can't do much for thermal conductivity. Just another thing to keep in mind.

odd but i took out OEM fan out and added a FAL fan in the PUSHER position and according to my datalogs, it runs a few temps higher then the OEM fan....how the **** is that possible? the fal fan was made to be a puller like OEM and i just reversed the wires and put it as a pusher on the FRONT of the radiator, i didnt need to pull the blade and flip it over did i?
