any head gasket can blow...
anybody who told you that your cometic wont blow, was lying...

good luck with the fix tho...

I love how everyone assumes it's the headgasket when someones car overheats.

From the way you describe the problem, it sounds like the radiator fan isn't coming on. Fairly simple to check, just jump the connector on the theromstat housing so the fans stay on all the time and see if it still heats up.

Also, the way the water bubbles up like that is normal. When the car is hot, thermostat is open, pump is flowing and you have enough water in the system it will bubble up and overflow like that without the cap on.

If the car only overheats at idle, i can pretty much guarantee it's a faulty fan switch or fan.

you guys are not reading his problem..... coolant is getting pushed into the overflow tank , it wont do that if his fan isnt comming on.

so i love how you wont fully read his problem. ive seen this a million times.

You said turbo overheat, and coolant overflow all in the same paragraph.

since its at idle, then its not your headgasket. its got to be your coolant fan.

If you've seen it a million times you would know that's what happens when an engine overheats. the hotter the engine gets the more coolant will flow into the overflow....so if his car is overheating i would expect his overflow tank to fill up or overflow.

i dont see it as the car is overheating so coolant is getting pushed into the catch tank.

i see it as the blown headgasket is alowing coolant to be pushed into the overflow , making the car overheat

haha.

ok, so what clues lead you to believe it's the headgasket then? Since you've seen it a million times..

If this guy had a blown headgasket it would overheat all the time, not just at idle.

DID YOU MISS THE PART WHERE HE SAID THERE WAS NO GUNK ANYWHERE IT DID NOT BELONG?

Did I get it to stick this time? It' not a head gasket.

I never thought about the cooling fan... Never had that problem before. Still sounds to me like his thermo is sticking, though. He should check his fan first though it's cheaper to fix.

Nice that you know me so well. I'd have to have been around a Go-Kart to know my way around one right? I've never even rode in one. Sorry I'm not so privileged.

hey how about this? test the fans, pressure test the cooling system if nothing else is at fault change the head gasket???
try the simple stuff first. in the amont of time we wasted talking about this his problem could be solved.
mine was doing the same thing. it was the thermostat.
not saying his isn't a head gasket.
just try the easy stuff first

i had the same thing happen to me!! people said it was the HG. it ended up being the radiator it self. use a friends radiator n see if it solves your problem. but make sure you bleed all the air out of the system after you change radiators.

or if thats not the problem, when it starts to over heat hold your car at 5k or 5.5k rpms and see if it holds temp or drops. if it does it might be your water pump. same thing happen to me 2.

ahhh guys the drama...

I had the EXACT same simptoms and it turned out that my sleeves moved which means the gasket wasn't sealing right... so it very well COULD be the head gasket...

now I'm no mechanic but I wouldn't just go changing radiators and replacing head gaskets and all that ****. do a FULL inspection of the entire cooling system first. then if the thermostat, radiator, water pump, etc... is working properly, and there is still too much pressure in the cooling system, then I would look at the head gasket.

I just think it easier to pull and check the thermostat, pressure test the radiator, and all that stuff before pulling the head... but again thats because I'm no mechanic.

There are too many configurations that produce the same problems, so I wont say for sure it's the HG... but since it happend to me and it was the HG I'm going to lean in that direction...

you could do a cooling system pressure test, you'll be able to hear if theres a leak.
