Default 'Ovaling' Header Runners?

I need to make the ends of my runners oval to match the port on the head better. I have been told to compress the end of the pipe to make the sides squish out, but this presses the top down flat and then it doesn't match the port now. There is about 1/4" gap on each side of the exhaust runner when I stick it in the flange on the head.

Can I get a $20 pipe expander from the local autoparts store? Will that work on stainless?

Thanks

Chris

heat it up a little then compress them. Go little by little. It's way better than overdoing them the first time.

I'd suggest heating them and bending them with plyers, but I have Schedule 40 1.5" pipe, and theres probably about a 1/16" gap on the sides.

What size of pipe are you using?

Use a big vise to smash it more evenly than pliers of c-clamp.......

I used an industrial press, go to a steel shop they'll have no problem.

I am using 1.75" pipes and they fit inside of the flange perfectly top to bottom, but not side to side. If I use a press or a vice, the top will get sqished down, and not fit right, but the sides will come out more. I then have a problem with the top and bottom fitting correctly??

It seems to me that I need to expand the pipe first, and then compress the top?

I use the vise and it gets very close.. Nothing a little time with the die grinder won't clear up.

yep 1.5" pipe. I use a big vice with a 5 ft extension bar All my manifolds have the tell-tale "vice grip marks" Its that, or have the elbows jettison across the room at ungodly speeds, breaking **** lol.
On my gfs sol, Im thinking of experimenting with a 1.5-2" runner size. Itll kill the velocity slighlty, but in return, I think the manifold will flow UNBELIEVABLY better that straight 1.5". Like I said, Im going to try this out, and wont know how it works till March or so
