OT: Waiting for boost
This is kinda off topic, but I was just woundering what other folks did while saving up cash to buy parts. Me, only wanting to pay cash for stuff and not credit, it seems to be takin forever, even longer now with a house.
What did some of you do while waiting for cash while parts sit there in a room and not on your ride?

new rule for the rest of my life. If I don't have cash, I don't need it! No more credit spending. You end up getting your self in a situation where you are done enjoying something, but may still be paying for it years later.

I sell parts that I have laying around in my garage that I dont need anymore. I would also try and work on other people's car for a little extra cash. I also surf classifieds or egay to find possible cheaper parts for my next purchase... that's about it..

In my case: keep working to get out of student loan debt. I figure if I can't pay for it straight up I don't deserve to have it, so I won't build my car on credit.

I'm in college, and I am working and saving. It is easier for me, being a freshman, I don't have the Teg up here, so I may get to drive it once every 2 months. So for now, I am going to save untill I get $2500, then, I will start by bying the downpipe, turbo, manifold, wastegate, and hopefully, keep working, and my goal is to have all my parts by the end of this summer, and be boosted, tuned, and raping my Best friend's GT mustang By thanksgiving!

i started collecting parts this time last year, and figured i'd be boosted by last july. Well i collected a few of the major bits, then did nothing for 6 months while buying a house. So similar situation as you
I've just been doing more and more research, all the while cursing the fact that i cant blow away these pesky skylines that insist on racing every Honda with rims off the lights (here in Oz skylines grow on trees, and they aint that fast usually)

yeah, I figured I'd have everything done by April of this year, but I would be lucky if I get all of the remaining parts I need bought by the end of the year.
I feel you on folks always trying to race you, I only have a cat-back and everyone seems to want to run.

one of my fears is that I would have waited so long, that when I get everything on and tuned, it will be nothing like I expected. Anyone else have the same thoughts?
I feel the same way jmal1919, My SS and GT were torque beast and they would snap your damn neck. Since I got my GSR, all I see is potential. But I have only rode in one nicely modified turbo car and it was a 95 eclipse, with a nice churpy bov, and a few other minor mods. A girl I knew, who was a "friend with benefits" borried it from her roomates B/F for the day, and came and got me. 3 Months after that I wanted an eclipse, and if i remember correctly, it was one of the reasons I started selling my Mustang.
I sit here nightly while I am suppose to be reading or doing homework just researching, and reading, trying to compile enough info in my mind. I mark on my calender when I will get Paychecks, and try and average how much they will be. I make goals for myself, have stuff installed by X day of X month. I create word files of the parts I would need if I went turbo, or if I went s/c, or if i did n2o. I list the prices I have found them, and where i found them at. Its beginning to take over my life. If it were up to me, I would be a mechanic, and work on cars, and work at a performance shop, But it doesn't pay what I need to fullfil all my wants and needs. Its a challenge for me.

I'm sitting here at work, i've just listed all the pay i expect to get for the next 2 months, and my expected expenses. I've tried to set myself a goal to get all the parts i have remaining. I've done bugger all work cos i'm thinking about all this kinda stuff today
I'd love to work on cars as well, but it doesnt pay enough and i am not a mechanic by trade. SO i'll try and work on my own.
Just thought of more parts i need....

im in the same boat... i just sit and look at the parts and it makes me want more. But by spreading it out i can find good deals and get the most out of my money... b/c we all know in the end it will be worth it.
Your right and it will be worth it. And life is too damn short to take so seriously. If we spend all our time working and worrying, WTF is the point in living? I procrastinated, and didn't do **** last semester and got a 3.25, and I think that speaks alot for being at UNC. SO this semester, Imma budget time a little better, do a lil more studying, but you can bet ure grandmas house Imma be on this forum, and on the net in general, gathering info and watchin street raicng videos as long as I can't be at home driving.

I've done the same thing, with notes and a excell spread sheet. I've got things budgeted down to the amount for the custom kit, exhaust needs, install, tranny needs, guages, etc..., and even the total cost of the car before w/ taxes, fees, financing, etc and after.
I figure when its all said and done, I will have a paid off ~27,000 (includes everything, car, fin, turbo, etc...) 02 accord EX with 200+hp and tq
