Good stuff! To bad you only get 18,000 to start...I bought one of those Diahatsu cars and had to race the damn Speedway like 20 times before I could get something decent...which was a Lancer!

Then I find out that a Miata could have been bought for $16,900 and with a $4500 turbo its up to 250 HP! Damn it!

I am trying to get the the License in B class and it is like TOTALLY pissing me off.

IT will **** you off you are trying to get GOLD in all of the tests. hehehe

It's a good game and well it's the reason why I bought a playstation2
although I must say that I am not totally impressed with the playstation2's
line up of games yet.

My real question is "is it worth buying a PS2 to play GT3?" Because if not for GT3 I wouldn't even consider it; a good PC with a Radeon can do everything the PS2 can do, but for some reason nobody has yet developed a driving game that can match the GT series, so I'm about ready to go buy the A-Spec combo meal next chance I get. I'm sure I'd end up getting a few other games, but my primary motivation would be GT3 and I'm wondering if anyone thinks it's worth it.

After a few months of rationalizing the purchase, I bought one off of eBay. $375 for a new PS2, extra controller, memory card, Cool Boarders 2k and Red Faction.

I told myself I needed a dvd player, and then GT3 comes out. If you still need something to convince you wait till the next Metal Gear Solid game comes out!

hell yeah, it's worth it. GT3 is why I bought my PS2 in Feb. I use the DVD player all the time (which just about makes up for the price alone) and have been waitin ever since (I have it now). The games are that plentiful yet, but they're comming. QuakeIII is so badass! GT3 is so freaking awesome!!!
The graphics are the best that I've ever seen, and the sound is awesome!!! There is a thread in the members forum about this as well. -C

Just wait 'till the PS2 broadband adapter comes out... then we'll all be racing each other online and we'll see who's really got the skills. We can have virtual honda-tech meets.

anyone have a Japanese version PS2 looking for Japanese GT3? I have a new GT3 from Japan, but my PS2 is US version, so I can't play.

Is that going to work with the I-link? Is that going to work with GT3?

Just want to add my .02 cents to this...

I agree the graphics are fantastic, especially the courses. The pavement looks great, you can see skid marks on the track, the grass and bushes on the side of the track look really good. And you can no longer fudge (good thing) by shooting over some of the grassy or sandy areas on a tight s-curve. Going off track is VERY detrimental, unlike the previous version.

The soundtrack is awesome!

Playability, I am still a little disappointed right now. But, I'm reserving from totally trashing it, because I think I just need to get used to the physics model/engine they have built. (Either that, or I'm just so used to driving top end cars from GT2) I definitely agree with what someone else above said, the license tests are a lot harder (to gold). Mostly, I believe because the cars are harder to drive. I blasted through GT2 with all gold up to IA License, and was only a few short there, so it's not lack of ability.

Is it worth buying a PS2 just for GT3? Hmmm, that's a real tough one. Personally, I'd say yes. But I played the *#$% out GT2 and will probably do the same with GT3.

Oh yeah, there are a few new tracks, very cool!

One more thing, to give you a feel for the graphics. I was running eastbound on one of the straightaways that lead to a 180 degree curve. When I came around the curve and started to head west bound, it was late in the day and the sun was setting. The sun kind of gets in your eyes and creates a "glare" on the tv screen. I started to squint at first, til I realized it wasn't going to do me any good, it was just a graphical effect!

Has anyone who has bought and played the game, found any value to qualifying? Everytime I qualify, I get pole position, but the damn computer cars are usually all over me and I get a nice view of their taillights. But, if I just start in 6th position, I can usually overtake and hold a lead fairly easily, plus it takes a lot less time and considering there is no monetary reward for earning the pole, I've just skipped from now on.

You know what dissapointed me? No aubible VTEC crossover! With all the other great details like the rotors turning red and all...VTEC would have been great!

I have yet to hear the mythical "vtec crossover sound" on any car, real world or video game. Now that my GSR is turbo the VTEC does make a perceptible change in engine noise though.

Maybe Sony will put that in along with the "naturally aspirated blowoff valve" as custom options for your car in GT4.

Huh...youre telling me youve never heard the intake/exhaust tone change on a GSR or ITR in the real world? Unless there was something very wrong with the GSR Ive riden in and 10+ SI's Ive seen/heard dyno'd...Ive heard it very clearly.

Here...try this out..I hope Im not "hearing" things...listn right at around 5 seconds into the clip.

He he he....I started with the Miata, and bought a turbo, sport exhuast, and computer, now pushing 260hp...no way would I play with a Diahatsu.

Does anyone know if you can adjust the volume level of the sound effects??? If not that is the only problem I have with the game.

Graphics are awesome....I was watching the opening movie and was like OMG....when they showed the game shots I thought to myself "if the game really looks this good I am going to **** myself"....and then it did look that good. Damn.

I still want there to be things like engine damge, boost adjustability, CR variations....etc. Maybe in GT4, if there will be one.

570hp NSX type-r
stock rx-8
630hp rx-7 fd

Why are all teh Honda cars slow in the quarter mile? The ITR, CTR and RSX Type S all run mid 16s stock! Modded out they still only run 14s...pretty weak!

The Mazda RX8 is sweet! 500 HP fully modded all motor, revs to 10,000 and runs high 11s!

the whole GT series penalizes you really bad for front-wheel drive when you launch; I'm pretty sure that is a very large part of the reason for such poor 1/4 mile times.

Just to add to the discussion, I went and bought the PS2/A-spec combo meal last night, played until 2am and now I am paying the price falling asleep at work!!! Awesome game. It helps that GT3 is the first game I've played on PS2. Great way to introduce yourself to high-powered gaming.
