One tech thinks its my timing belt, another thinks it is noisy lifters..what the heck...
I just had new timing belt put on about 16K miles ago... Can they losen up that fast?? Also is the fact I accidently turned the timing up one time too high lead to the losening up of the belt. If in fact that is what is ticking.. I know its not the valves cause I had those adjusted and the ticking is still there...If it is the lifters is that bad and how much does that cost to fix...

B series motors don't have lifters so tell the one tech that he's an idiot. And are you sure your valves were adjusted properly? The car has to be dead cold when you adjust them because the clearances listed in the specs can't compensate for head expansion.

the engine was about 85 degrees.. could it be the timing belt so soon?

Changing the timing won't cause the timing belt to loosen. If you are brave, pull off the valve cover and start the engine for a few seconds. You might be able to hear a valve that the clearance is too loose. Then wipe off the oil that got all over you. Timing belt should have plenty of life left in it.

It is a metal sound tap.... i am positive it is coming from the head/valves.. it is driving me nuts not know what it is or how to fix it..

Did you have the auto-tensioner replaced when you did the timing belt? I've heard they can go to crap if you don't replace it.

B16A/B17A/B18A/B18B/B18C/B20B dont have auto tensioner.
F22A/F23A/H22A etc etc have autotensioners

b series motors technically do have an auto tensiner. you have to loosen the bolt that holds the tensioner and let the spring pull up on the belt tensioner and then just tighten it back up. This doesnt really work though, i always end up pulling on the tensioner with a coat hanger to get the belt tight enough. honda needs to put a stiffer spring in there little self tensioning device.

its not an autotensioner because the it requires a bolt to hold tension.
The Hand F motors have a Hydraulic autotensioner.

If you advanced your timing WAY too mugh you might have had a very slight valve/piston contact and caused some damage that way. I don't know how much you played with your timing though so I couldn't tell you for sure.

Is it possible it could be the sound of your injectors firing? I know mine are pretty loud, louder than the valves. One thing you can do is take a long screwdriver, place one end on a part of the valve cover, the other end to your ear, and it should amplify the tapping sound. You might get a better idea if its one of the valves, and which one. Just a little trick. May only work with the injectors though, since I dont think it'll work through the valve cover, but try anyway. Also take off the cover and check how much movement you have on the timing belt intetween the cam gears. You should have too much deflection.
