i bought an engine block from a guy on here that had a little suface rust on the cyclinder walls. i cleaned off the loos rust with wd40 and some steel wool and i just finished honing it tonight, but it has this black stain on all the cyclinder walls, what would cause this? and what is it?

that is honed, lol.

 

yea, that is honed, i honed it for about 1.5 minutes in each cyclinder. thats why i called it a stain.

 

looks like caca poo

 

should i hone it more with no oil and then a little longer with oil to smoth is out? and see if that fixes it?

 

that looks like a loss of oil and a p[iston getting really hot and schorching the cylinder wall, but hey if there is no grooves in the wall and the cylinder is true....then go for it I guess. One question though, why not sleeve it? Low budget project?
