Oil weights and viscosity?

Default Oil weights and viscosity?

someone told me and i read articles that diff weights and vicosoties will create and lose hp dependin on the set up ?
someone told me they use 20w50 race oil and gianed 3/10's? this was in a hot rod, but is this true? if so what weight are good to use ? i still use 5w30 in my car

This thread will have so many different opinions. For an overhead cam motor, a thinner oil should produce more power. 20w50 is too heavy for a Honda motor. Prostock NHRA guys run very thin weight. I believe it is 0w10. Go figure, they are the factory hotrods.

Oh, I use 5w30 Royal Purple. I suggest you stay at 5w30. May 10w30 but no higher.

i run 20-50 in the summer and 15-40 in the winter. Im sure i could gain some horse power by running thinner wieght oil, but i like running the thicker oil . Maybe im just hard headed, but thats the way im gonna keep it. And yea... everyone has there own opinion on this subject.
