Oil temperature
Yo H-T's
Had a moderate drive today and I noticed that almost on the way home the oil temperature gauge would read about 121*Celcius (250*Farenheit). I was cruising about 110km/h most of the time off boost and the day temperature was 34*Celcius (93.2*F). Is this normal or is this really pushing the oil/engine to limits??
Normally when I drive 20mins to/from work, the oil temp would only reach 200*Farenheit. Pressure is always good hot or cold.
Car: Accord
Engine: F22B1
Engine Oil: Royal Purple 10W40
Also, I bought 5w30 Royal Purple today for next oil change supposedly be better. Any opinions?

Re: Oil temperature
You're only going 110km/h, that's not bad. The question is whether or not the choice of oil that you used is subject to more thermal breakdown because of the outside ambient temperatures. The answer is "no one knows but Royal Purple. Those temps are little high, but not for a hot day like that. You should check your levels on a regular basis before switching viscosity.

Re: Oil temperature
I've seen some cars start to smoke (thinned oil through the turbo) past 230 F. Two of them were from ditching the factory oil cooler and going with the Apexi tach that comes with a sandwich plate for oil pressure/temp - kind of funny since the gimmicky tach was also how we knew the car was nuking the oil - when you swapped back to the stock cooler they stopped doing it.

Re: Oil temperature
An oil cooler and braided lines shouldnt cost you more than $150ish
Those temps are definitely well into the high zone of reliability from what Ive been taught on regular motor oil, mind you I dont know if royal pruple is designed to still preform at those temps. They would scare me though

Re: Oil temperature
those temps are normal on a non-oil cooled turbo honda. mine will reach 210-230f also while on the hwy for any decent amount of distance.
i currently use RP engine oil....its excellent engine oil and it wont have any issues running that hot. but investing in an oil cooler would not be a bad idea.
