Default oil ring gap too large???

got some je proseal rings for my 84.5mm b20 block. ive got the top 2 ring gaps about where i need them, but the thin rings for my oil ring have large gaps. je says no less than .015", but can it be too large?

most of mine are .020-.025", but one of them is huge, around .035". this is all with no filing of course, just right out of the pack. can i use that??? the motor will be daily driven and only make about 200whp

The oil ring gap is not critical.I've run them as much as .060' with no issues. If you have .035" you don't have any problem.

yeah i have never heard of filing the rails for the oil control ring before i usually only file the two compression rings. .035 gap seems too large of a gap to me. i know the rule of thumb when building a turbo motor to have the gaps larger for heat compensation but for a n/a build they should be closer to stock. correct me if im wrong.

i know you dont file the oil rings. i just put that in there to help the point of the ring came that large and it wasnt something that i did myself.

the top rings i had to file down. they came out the box at about .013" and i filed them down to get around .017". the 2nd ring i only had to file 1 of them, the others were .022" right out of the box, which is a little larger than i wanted for the use the motor will get, but it is still acceptable imo. none of this woulda happened if rs machine sent me the right rings in the first place, or could at least get me the replacement correct set within a month...
