Oil on pistons new build
Hello everyone I just fired up my new motor build it is a 85mm darton sleeve b18b1 ls vtec. I'm running a top mount manifold and t3t4 precision turbo.
I started her up today for the first time. I have not made a downpipe yet so the exhaust is directly out if the turbo lol. I let the engine idle for 15 on a stock p28 and stock injectors to find any oil or coolant leaks. All seemed well idleing was ok and the motor came to temp like normal.
I pulled the plugs after running it and noticed a thin coat of fresh oil on top of all the pistons.
I'm worried that this is not normal? Some say it may need time for the rings to seat
any suggestions?

Re: Oil on pistons new build
The rings need to seat but i'm not sure it that would cause it. It's a new motor maybe just a fluke thing keep on eye on it. I once had a bunch of oil down the spark plug holes and on the spark plugs on my b16. I changed the valve cover gasket and the round gaskets that go under the valve cover around the spark plug holes. It fixed it right away. maybe thats your problem

OK so one thing I left out and I apologize is the motor I built was sitting for about 6 months as I was trying to locate a Chasis. In the time being I put two caps of fresh oil in each cylinder and used that to turn over the motor and to keep the Sleeves from rusting. When I say a think coat imagine putting a drop of oil on your finger and spreading it out you can see but its not a puddle. No Oil on Plugs engine idles perfectly fine and seems to do well. At this point Im thinking its from when I dropped oil in the cylinders I just thought it would have burned off by now.

i would buy one new spark plug and run it for a day. pull it out and see if its wet again. or just wipe them all off the best you possibly can.

go drive it for a good 100 miles.
replace the plugs and do another 100 pull the plugs and inspect them...its very common for a fresh build to blow smoke and have oil in combustion chamber untill the rings break in and sit.
