So I was planning on using a saab oil intercooler on my turbo accord and hook it up in-line with my feed line. The lines that came on the cooler are larger than -3 (prob closer to a -10). So will there be any issues if I use -3 lines with brass fittings to size down to whatever the bungs on the oil cooler are (i.e. pressure issues)? What other setups do you think would be better?

going from -3 to -10 is a BIG pressure difference..just get a block adapter with some 10an fittings or watever the cooler fittings are and your set..

Do they even make adapters with that big of a fitting?
I'll try looking but if you could link me, that would be great. The only reason I was even going to do this was because I had a turbo with 7k miles on it (new) and one day it blew the oil seals with a small amount of side to side play (no in and out). When inspected, they said there was oil coking issue and suggested using an oil cooler. I've never heard of a stock motor FI setup needing an oil cooler unless it was for track use. I do know that my oil return was not perfectly vertical, but it never went fully horizontal. Do you think as long as I do a better oil return, my future turbo will be okay?

alot of the coking issues come from running the car hard and then shutting it off immedietely, the oil sits there in the hot chra and burns up. use a better quality oil and let the car idle for a min or so before shutting off, If you just ran it hard let it idle a little longer.

I was always very cautious about cool down after driving...If I was doing daily average driving without building boost or bringing rpms any further than 3k, I would let it idle for roughly 1 minute. If I drove any more aggressively, i would let it idle for at least 2 minutes.

I've done 3 oil changes since the car was boosted. The first was mobil 1 5w-30. The last two were Royal Purple 5w-30. The guy at blaastperformance suggested I run a 5w-50 next time. My return line is very close to my DP but I had heat reflective wrap around it to try and help keep ambient heat away.

So is coking something that only occurs from lack of cool down?

coking occurs whenever the oil gets too hot and starts to break down. many things can cause it.

Easiest method as stated above is to get a oil cooler sandwich plate ( you can get a name brand or the ebay special ones ) they cost anywhere from $ 20-$ 50 and the smallest I would run is a -8 . If your running the oil cooler upfront you dont want to run much smaller.

-3 would be 100% out of the question.

How would those adapters work? Tiny ports going into huge -8 lines?
