Default oil additives

i have an occassional problem with white smoke blowin out of my exhaust and i have yet to figure out the problem. so...

one day i was checkin out some auto products. i came across stp smoke treatment. its supposed to help reduce smoke caused by blowby. i have turbo... so im not sure if it would be a good idea to use this product.

now my question is... will it be safe to use oil additives? will it harm any seals? from what ive heard... thin oil is better in contrast to thicker oil. the oil additive looks thicker of course.

if this isnt a good additive to use... what is?

I remember a while back there was a REALLY good thread on oil additives and one that worked like a charm. Does anyone have it? The guy's rings were shot and he was blowing blue smoke out like crazy then added in some stuff, started his car, it smoked, then 5min later no smoke... I wish i had the thread saved...

The product is called "Engine Restore". They have ads on the tv about it. I heard it works great too.

Lucas brand oil treatments work well for trannys or motors. I personally dont use additives though...

My 90 civic eats a quart every 500 miles. Used Engine Restorer because I basically don't care about the car. It still uses oil, only helped a little bit. The only thing that will help that motor is a compleat rebuild with new oil control rings. Damm D-series!

Its not engine restore and it wasnt one of the spam tv infomercials. I think the guy got it from autozone/advanced auto. I agree, you cant really bandaid a problem like this but I would like to know the name of the additive for future reference.

i remember that article too, however there was a professional scientist on here (or chemist or something) who says it works just the way it is supposed to, however as soon as u stop using it to condition the seals...they wear out more
