Default oem head gasket or cometic? 600whp..

I have a sleeved b20 about to go in although I am debating on what head gasket to run, my old set up was 361whp with a cometic and ran fine. But 600whp is a whole different world.. wanted to hear what you high hp guys run. thanks!

used a cometic/arp setup and worked for a while. started overheating, replaced with ge studs/headgasket.

the engine was together for 3 years, so i cant really complain about the cometic headgasket. it may have been a stud failure.

but sfsg, on the ge combo.

If you spend a few hours researching you will find that about 80% of the time people have had HORRIBLE experiences with Cometic. I personally had one and it sucked. Bought another and it sucks.

I've had Golden Eagle OEM bored ever since and had no problems.

x3. Ive ran both. People say either will work but I believe OEM is better. Hold both in your hand and tell me which one you think is better quality. The cometic fell apart when I took the head off. All I can say is after building my motor with both I will never run a cometic again, not that I had a problem I just don't trust it as much

I have been running a cometic for about 5 years now and it is a stock sleeve ls/v dd and track car. It also has seen 30psi a few time. (but you need to read the info that comes with the gasket you need to mill it really fine and the people that have had pro. DONT DO THAT so)

depends. Has your head been milled or block been decked? If so, the oem gasket might be affected by it as far as timing alignment

what head?

if b20/ls head just go with oem b20 headgasket

if vtec head run a GE headgasket in the proper bore with arp/ge/aebs headstuds and you will be fine

what it comes down to is the cometic works great for some people, and not for others, but the OEM one works great for everyone. so its pretty self explanatory here.

cometic defenders will say you installed it wrong etc... but it seems noone installs oem ones wrong.

I do have cam gears oh and yes it will be B20/Vtec. everything fully built. So looks like pretty much what i am hearing is to run Golden Eagle? hmm never even thought about that. Shoot if your running 48PSI then i see why not. Do you recommend their head studs over the Arp? I already got Arp but I will go with the better.

The tinsel strength is higher in the GE headstuds vs the similar, slightly higher priced non-l19 ARP head studs. The overall finish and quality is also a whole lot nicer on the GE's.

I use an oem head gasket, using ge 70psi/1300whp o ring'd sleeves with ge studs.

I use oem gaskets and either brand head stud on every customer honda. I stay away from off brand mls head gaskets.

im on the same boat now...looking for a good head gasket...

I have a 84x89 ge sleeved oringed ls block...

if im going to get the HG from GE. what bore size should i get 84mm or 84.5/85mm?

I added 84.5 or 85mm in the options because a local guy told me that I can also use those sizes also? Is this true? Another thing, is the oem crv/b20 non vtec HG is sized at 84.5mm?

cosmetic makes a 84mm vtec head gasket ..but if ur running a ls block bore to 84mm go with oem b20 gasket its the same as GE...also run GE headstuds..the dimples at the bottom allow for better torque...and also to run cosmetic you need to have the block deck to their spec..RA something the smoothness level on the surface..also try copper spray helps seal better...

i was using b20 gasket before, but two of the coolant passage ways are block that why im kinda running hot when im using it on the streets, we pulled the head down and we see the culprit that I stated. We didn't modify the B20 gasket.

Im also using GE stud so that's no issue, also copper sprayed the gasket.

another thing it think GE's HG and b20 are not the same...GE is vtec gaskets while b20 of course aren't.

as you can see.

Another thing, according to race engineering we can use .5 or 1mm over bore in the gaskets we use. It will only result in a much lower compression.

Also the b20 gasket is 84.5mm. so that makes sense.
