Default Octane booster work?

DOes this **** actually raise your octane?
Im going lapping and they only have 92 in the area and my car is "tuned" on 94.
SO I am thinking of buying some octane booster and using it. Should I even bother?

it works, just remember points go down the more you mix it with pump gas, since this is a force induction forum im guessing your force induced in some way.. so i say better to spen dthat extra umm $8 bucks on octane booster then blowin/ or pinging all over the place

Just remember that octane boosers only rase your octane by about .6 to 1 piont per can. So one can will rase your octane to 92.6 to 93. You can only use about two cans before it starts to mess things up. Check this link to make your own octane booster. http://www.gnttype.org/techare....html

If you go to the paint store and buy some xylene or toulene by the gallon it will probably come out cheaper than buying bottled octane booster.

I've heard of toulene being used but not xylene. Whats the formula mixture for xylene?

There is no formula. You go to your paint store and say, 'hey gimme some xylene' then the guy gets you a can that says xylene on it. Then you pay like 8 bux or whatever, then you leave the store. Then you dump it in your gas tank and then you go drive.

Toulene or toluene is 114 octane me thinks, while xylene is 117. Or maybe its the other way around. No, wait, its not the other way around.

It will basically do exactly the same thing as that octane booster bottled stuff, but it works out cheaper. If you do some searching you will find out more info that I care type out on this sub-compact laptop keyboard.

yes, there is a formula, u can just dump it in ur tank, but it would be better if u mix it correctly

How to make your own octane booster (this is the basic formula of one of the popular octane booster products). To make eight 16 ounce bottles (128 oz = 1 gal):

100 oz of toulene for octane boost
25 oz of mineral spirits (cleaning agent)
3 oz of transmission fluid (lubricating agent)

This product is advertised as "octane booster with cleaning agent *and* lubricating agent!". Diesel fuel or kerosene can be substituted for mineral spirits and light turbine oil can be substituted for transmission fluid. Color can be added with petroleum dyes.

Yes i have used this mixture and it does work

There are no hazards when dumping this "tolene, and Xylene" stuff into your tank? Simply just pour it in and run around with no worrries?

Are there things that I should prepare the car for? Any prepping needed? Or is it really just adding about a gallon's worth and run around with no probs??

curious. Why do you say its rubbish? It seems cheaper, and it seems efficient. What are the downsides? There has to be some...

for the price of 1 bottle of octane booster (usually $8-$10) you can buy 2 gallons of real race fuel and I trust that more...

if you mix you 2 gallons of race gas with 6 gallons of 92 you should have an octane rating of 95.. perfect, and that is using 104 unleaded so you dont mess up your o2 sensor

We don't have any unleaded race gas here. We have lots of 100/110 leaded race gas for the jet skis and dirt bikes, nut none for cars with 02 sensors.

Ya I've read of this "formula" before, but I don't like putting minerals and oil into my gas. Also if you're going to be using toulene or xylene you need to be aware that there is a maximum amount you can use when cutting it with gas. I think 10 to 15% to pump gas is alright. Any more than that and you might have problems.

1 bottle of octane booster will give you maybe half a point increase, there are heaps of additives in octane booster as well. Your o2 sensor will take more then 5 hours of consistant leaded race gas use..... Now what do's a new o2 sensor cost compared to 2 million bottles of octane booster... And if your in anyway clued up you should be able to find c16.........
