Default o-ring reciever groove in the head???? help

I looks like im gonna have to use a steal o-ring and a copper head gasket. The groove is there for the copper rings will i need a reciever groove in the head also? larry at edyne and summit racing say i do. any ideas?

The only way you can seal a copper gasket right is to use a safety wire in the grooves and machine a receiver groove in the head so the copper can push into it. If you're talking to larry, he can give you the specs necessary for the receiver groove. The receiver groove can't be of a circular shape, it has to have square edges to bite the copper.
I still think that a copper gasket should only be used for frequently torn-down drag race engines tho. I've yet to see one that sealed water and oil passages properly.

right now im using copper orings with a stock headgasket. You could probably do the same, then you wont need a receiver groove in the head.

right now im using copper orings with a stock headgasket. You could probably do the same, then you wont need a receiver groove in the head.

why must you use steel o-rings??? the groove in the block should accept the same gauge copper o-ring

Well the block was milled 30 thousanths before the sleeves were installed and then It was ran with copper o-rings and leaks, for the owner decided to cut another 20 thousanths of the block to make the grooves only half as deep and run steal rings and a thicker head gasket. He said it works. But everyone i have talked to says stay away from copper for the streets
