supercharged...205 hp 0-60 in 6.0 sec
14.5 1/4
115ft 60-0 braking
.89 skidpad
69mph on the 600ft slalom.

now it may not be as fast but in this motor trend i just pulled that info from it has an article about the new turboed mazda 6 which looks pretty nice</TD></TR></TABLE>

i've got the current Motor Trend, and the Cobalt SS went thru their slalom faster than the Z51 Corvette. also brakes faster (60-0) than the WRX, 0-60 faster than the mini cooper S....just because it's GM doesn't mean it's shitty kids.

there's also talk around GM about offering "staged" upgrades like mopar has been doing with the "not-a-neon".

my father-in-law sells at a chevy dealership, so i'll be going for a test drive when the SS hits dealerships around may.

the only one of those specs that impresses me is the slalom.

braking specs? cars that brake well are really random.

0-60 faster than a mini S? GASP!! those are slow cars so I should hope so! sheeit.

but yeah, beating a vette through the cones is quite impressive.

name me another car company's stock offering off the showroom floor that has a 4-cylinder that will do 0-60 in less than 7 seconds. keep your price less than $25k as well.

WRX in 5.5, sure. but mazda doesn't have one, honda (acura) doesn't have one, SRT-4 does it in 5.8.........and since the Ion Redline is the same thing as the Cobalt SS it really doesn't matter. 0-60 in under 7 seconds is pretty decent for something with a small engine.

remember, we're talking about fresh off the dealership floor here. i await your response.

the mini S is supercharged, so it's no suprize that it has SOME *****.
but it runs 15's, and modified ones run 14's.. you have to do alot to em to get em faster than that.. so as for speed they really arent that impressive.
(handling wise they are though!).

and 0-60 times are for motor trend readers,
I think most of us know it's not the greatest gauge of a cars speed anyways.

Nobody knows what that is ? Well its called a Rootes blower .They are used on detroit diesels.A detroit is a 2 stroke diesel. That means it fires every time the piston comes up.The reason they have to have the supercharger is that dont have intake valves. It has ports in the cyl.or the sleeve and it has to have pressure in the bottom end so the air can go through the ports. That blower that you have is A 4-71. That means it went on a 4 cyl. engine, With 71 cu. in. per cyl.maybe you have heard of a 6 or 8 -71.The 8-71 is the biggest blower that Detroit made. There
is after market ones that are 10, 12 , and 14-71s But the # doesn't mean the same thing.

actually the 8v 92 blowers are bigger than the 71 series blowers and yes they use them in tandem meaning a 1v92 uses 2 6v 92 blowers ect and actually detroit made a 625 hp 6v92 that used a blower that was bigger than the 8v92.

I thought they used same blower just spun them faster.thanks Have you ever worked on 12- 71 or 12 or 16-92s?I lived in Puerto Rico and Fort Laurderdale
for a few years and worked on private sports fishing and drug runners boats.(which you don't know until you get there)And boy was that scary. You didn't know if when you finished if they were going to throw you over or what.Anyway those are
some big sumbitchs.we used to hop up the 71s with 92 injectors. It looks like your
mechanical experience has a pretty wide power band also.I have worked everything from Detroit's,Cats to VW and Top Fuel. That just made me feel old.

your thinking of when detroit had a problem with them smoking and had a revision of the gear train where they used a step up gear to spin the blowers faster but the 92 series blowers are bigger,
yeah running 145 or 5670 injectors in the 71 or 92 will put out some power and been a old trick for years, i was a marine field tech for williams detroit diesel/MTU before i got tired of lugging 671 heads arround and yeah ive been to the bahamas for the sportfishes and megayachts with the 2000 and mtu engines, yeah ive done quite a bit from the 2 stroke diesels to the cats and the alcos and fairbanks morse, from the bb chevys to the hondas and bmw and then my favorite of Porsche germanys gift to the world along with Alois RUF.
as far as feeling old yeah i know what you mean

So we have the same favorite car also.I had a 914-6 with a 3.0.But it seemed like every time I drove it I got a ticket. So the last time I drove it,it got impounded for going way to fast. And I sold when it was in impound. And got something faster. An 87 Grand National. But that got stolen 2 months ago.Hey those MTUs are sure nice. All white.I worked at the Frieghtliner factory in Chino in 1978&79 until they moved. The last time I have touched diesel was in 87 so its been awhile. Now I build headers for a living. And you don't have a RUF porsche ,do you?

914's are ******* sick!!!!!

grand nationals are cool too, but the 914 is where it's at.
you gotta be more stealth with your driving,
I'm not saying I have a clean record or nothin..

but man my radar is up BIGTIME when I'm driving fast..
i'd probably drive safer if I wasn't checking my mirrors and surroundings for cops all the time, heh.

no no ruf here i wish, i went to ruf though and took a look arround ... just a factory turbo look 86 carrera that i have built a 3.4l with turbo headers for using a pt67 and autronic ecu with 8 to 1 comprssion pistons in my opinion much nicer than a 930 with cis it has the same body brakes and suspension as the 930 just no cis.. 914-6 are fun and with a gt body look killer.
