Not the typical LS trans question..
Anyone with even a little sense can understand why shorter gears (numerically High) will allow for quicker acceleration than longer ones(Numerically low) even though GSR trannys are a little longer than b16's trannys, they are regarded as a "better" street tranny as its ratios are a good compromise. But I cant help but think that an LS tranny with a 4.4 FD would be better for my setup than a GSR. Before you have me committed let me explain..
First my combo:
B20vtec
gt30r or equivalent t04e with smallish a/r (maybe .63)
Equal length Manifold
300-375whp
275-350tq
8000rpm redline
Now..
Between a GSR and LS Trans the first two gears are the same so with a 4.4 FD they would be identical in the low end.
3rd gear is where they become different. 1.269 vs 1.360 that's only 7% reduction in acceleration. then we have 4th gear. 0.966 vs 1.034.. again 7%
So an LS trans with a 4.4 FD. would anyone with a turbo 2.0 be shooting themselves in the foot by running this type of tranny? would it even be noticeable?

I don't have any specific input on ratios but..
If you're planning on running close to 400hp the "long" LS trans will feel a lot better than N/A compared to a gsr trans.
According to a Dynanamics dyno I'm running 409hp/310trq on an ls/vtec with an 8400 redline,
and from personal preference I actually like the LS better now.
I know the shorter the gears the better, long as if you have a proper setup to control traction.
This is just my opinion after running only gsr trans on n/a setups for years,
you shouldn't be disappointed with an LS and 400hp.

Re: Not the typical LS trans question..
I ran a similar setup on my person integra for years. We found that it was better combination than even the standard GS-R.
Don't know anyone that can be convinced otherwise, than to actually try it out. As much as we all like to calculate the exact outcome of everything in the world, this is one of those things you have to experience.
So, no convincing... try it, or don't.
Good luck.

Re: Not the typical LS trans question..
A friend of mine has tried this ls gearset with 4.4 final combo as well as gsr gearset with 4.26 final and he prefers the gsr w/ 4.26 for his application. I guess it all depends on the power band and cars use.
I have had a straight GSR trans and a straight LS trans. Now I tried the GSR/LS combo and prefer it to any trans set up I have had yet.

Going from a straight LS to a GSR with LS final I love the GSR trans. The double synchro second gear and closer 3rd just feel alot better.
