Default LS VS GSR!!!

I'm thinking about replacing my GSR tranny w/typeR LSD with an LS w/quaife. The reason for this is because my car is mainly use for autox events and I don't want to worry about shifting gears and be able to stay in the 2nd for the whole run. Right now the gsr gear ratio is kinda short and I will often run out of RPM whenever there is a long straight. I either needs to let go far before I reach the breaking point or just let the needle bouncing off the rev limiter. Either way I'll lose times.

However, Is there any down side about the taller gear in the LS tranny (with turbo) when compare with GSR? Will the LS slow down the boost to build up and causing more turbo lag (I nearly have non w/GSR)? Also how will it affects the car to accelerate? Good or bad...?

here is my current set up--
GSRmotor and tranny
JE10:1
revhard kit/ Kooks manifold
runing 8-18psi

the gear ratios for the itr/gsr/ls all have differant final drives... but for all the tranny's 1st and 2nd gear have the same ration... 3rd gear is where they all change... either way u look at it... u will probably still have to shift out of 2nd or hit the rev-limiter

4dr is right, the LS tranny will have the same first and second as a GS-R. actually, wait a minute it will be a tad bit longer because the final drive is different. I believe LS and GSR tranny have the same gear ratio in 1st and 2nd but the final drive is different. what you really want to do is stick an LS final drive in your GS-R tranny. that will give you a tad bit longer gearing however you're still get to keep your close gear ratio tranny. someone either back me up or school me, I think that's right though.

no, 4dr has it wrong. The GSR and LS have the same 1&2 gears, and the ITR and GSR hve the same FD (4.4:1). The LS has a 4.26 fd is memory serves. The ITR has different gears (same as b16a SI). HTH, -C

yeah, thats what I meant. I was typing as I was thinking, that's why I wrote "wait a minute". What I was saying is that it would be all about using a GS-R tranny with LS final drive, that would allow you to keep the closer 3rd 4th and 5th of the GSR tranny but it would just give you a tad bit longer gearing.

here's my suggestion: Keep your GS-R tranny but put an LS final drive in it. If you switch over to an LS tranny you'll have the gay gears for 3rd 4th and 5th, you want to stick with the closer gears of the GS-R tranny. if you do this it will be the same as having an LS tranny in 1st and 2nd but with closer gears for 3rd and up.
