The other thing I just thought of...why would variable timing reduce reliability? You realize that the 97+ TT Supras had VVTL...which is basically like Vtec in essence. Just thought I would bring that up. If I'm off by bringing this up then just ignore it then...but it does make sense. Also S14 and S15 SR20's had variable timing as well. Forget what it's called.
