I wasn't aware that you used a ABC manifold gasket. It's gotta be that.

if it was an exhaust leak you'd hear it, i have no gasket between my turbo and downpipe, and i can hear it leak even though all the bolts are tight as hell. is the bov stuck open, or do you possibly have a leak around it? did you do a leak down test on the intercooler?

Gee, that's the noise a leaky manifold usually makes. Change that gasket.

post up some pics.. maybe we can spot something wrong...

Its got to me something small.. you postive you have a external ONLY turbo.. Sounds like the internal wastegate is open all the time...

Is there a little Flip down door behind your downpipe

What kind of turbo is it? and it's on what engine? Maybe the turbine is just completely wrong.

If you disconnect the vac/boost line to your Tial altogether you should be able to hit the gas and have it build boost VERY fast (assuming there isn't any other problem). I've done this, use with extreme caution because unlike what you may think, it WONT stop building at your 9psi.

this may sound too simple, but is the turbo getting any oil to it?

okay, i'll try to answer all your questions...
i have a b16a
stone racing t3/t4e turbo
tubular manifold
tial wastegate
turbo xs bov

The turbo spins freely when i spin it with my finger
i've checked the piping and pressure checked it 10 times already...holds boost fine

i havent done anything to the oil lines since i changed turbos, and before, i was boosting...

I am positive my turbo is external wastegate.

I know my wastegate is not opening early, because there is nothing coming out of the dump tube...it is literally spotless.

okay, now i need ideas of what it could be...heres the whole story. my car was boosting at 4psi, and because of that, the turbo was overspinning. i took off the turbo and got it replaced under warranty. i put the new turbo on, pressure checked everything, finxed my MANY leaks, and now it gets NO boost at all. I have a feeling now, that its some kind of
before-turbo exhaust leak, but how do i find an exhaust leak on a turbo car?

Look there while it running. You'd see the leak, or feel it when you stick your head down there. Just not too close, because that shizz is hot.

Try taking a piece of white paper and move it around all the places it could leak. You'll find it that way definately.

still doing it...could a lack of oil cause this? i noticed today, that my feed line is leaking, so maybe the turbo is getting insufficient oil...would this cause it to not spool at all though???

alright. this may sound crazy... But something to try. My friend had the exact same problem you did for quite a while. He took apart everything trying to fix it and still could only boost to 4 psi max. He even went as far as to block off his wastegate to try and see if that was the cause of the problem. However, nothing he or any local shop did helped his problem until he unbolted his cat and put a test pipe on it. Im not sure why but after he did that, hes been able to boost 14+ psi with no problems. Im not sure of your setup but you never know if it could be something as simple as that.

Things i've seen to cause this..

Pre-turbo exhaust leak.
Check your manifold gasket and your turbo to manifold gasket, look for black markings

Clogged catalytic converter.
I took a carwash to my exhaust (unbolted of course) and cleaned it out real real good.l

Shot turbo bearing cartridge.
Check for shaft play.

I have a similar problem. Except i was able to get 5psi from the turbo. I still didnt quite figure out what had caused it, but my manifold did leak. (it cracked and leaked under agressive driving.) I am waiting for a new manifold, but like you guys said. I've gutted my cat, and it still didnt do anything to the boost. Could it be that you are connecting the Boost Gauge wrong? I did that before and was not able to see a BOOST reading on the gauge, however, i do feel a difference in power.

Well.. other than that, i got no clue...

do you have a big gaping hole in your intercooler? that would really be the only other place i could see you losing pressure if as you say you can see the turbo spinning, you can hear it/see it, and the charge pipes arent leaking. Even if your wastegate was suck all the way open you should still be able to see a little bit of boost, if there is no leaks on the charge side of the system. I really doubt your issue has anything to do with ehhaust.
