Default Nitrous Questions

Ok, i have been toying with the idea of getting N20 for quite some time, but i have a few questions and concerns.

My mechanic has been working on cars for 25 years and does not even sell or install nitrous becasue he dosnt like it and thinks its horible for the engine, no matter how small the shot. He has also never been wrong about anything so far. He isnt some all motor guy either, he really trusts F/I. My other that friend has a 12 second turbocharged nissan and knows a good deal about cars and says that he dosnt like nitrous as well, dangerous for the car, ect.

Now my friend with an old saturn SC2 is running the 55 shot dry zex kit on his stock saturn engine and likes it alot. His car has a fair ammount of miles on his car too. No problems what so ever.

I have noticed that anyone i know that knows lots about cars does not like nitrous, i also have not heard too many bad things about it either, if done right. So that brings me to the question, what is the truth?

Any experences or any knowledge would be a great help to me.

I would also like to know if its safe to run a 55 shot with a light weight aftermarket flywheel.

Most problems with NOS result in two things. Poor installation and the user upping the shot to more than a motor can handle. I have NOS on my vehicle and it loves it. I'm running just a 30 shot and it makes a big difference for my application.
Most NOS experts will tell you that the rule of thumb when running NOS is......the shot shouldn't be more than half of the HP aspiration of the motor. That may be more conservative than what most people might think but it's a very safe number to go by. If you mechanic doesn't like it, chances are he will not install it for you or he doesn't know enough about it to do a thorough install. If you want the NOS, go to someone who sells it and stands behind their work.

That is so very true. Most people who dont trust nitrous, are usually the ones that are mostly closed minded about the stuff. It is just like anything else you do to your car, modification wise. If you install a turbo onto your car, and you dont have enough fuel matching air intake charge, then BOOM! There goes your engine. Nitrous is the same way. Just dont listen to all the stupid **** that people say about it. If they had a bad experience with the stuff, then hey, it was probably all their fault to begin with anyways. That is the number one reason why people diss on nitrous; because they dont know anything about it and dont know how to use it.

You should also make sure that you purchase the correct kit for your motor.
